Open Discussion – Browser Compatibility for PeopleSoft Applications

Welcome! This is PeopleSoft Public Sector User Group’s monthly Call on Tools and Technology.

PeopleSoft applications have come a long way over the past couple of decades, especially with going from a desktop based application (Client-Server with a dedicated client) to a web-centric, internet based application. With a web browser being the platform for User Interaction to run most business processes via the PeopleSoft Internet Architecture (PIA). Fluid pages and UI also brought in the additional features surrounding usage of applications on a mobile platform via a browser. Needless to say biggest dependency for today’s PeopleSoft applications is having a supported browser, which drills down further into the type, version, build etc. This is the topic of our discussion. For some additional information, here is a thorough support document that Oracle publishes every time a new PeopleTools version is released: PeopleTools 8.42 – 8.58 Browser Compatibility Guides (Doc ID 704492.1) https://support.oracle.com/epmos/faces/DocumentDisplay?id=704492.1

We will spend time collaborating and discussing on topics around browser support and browser specific issues for PeopleSoft applications. The agenda will be driven by attendees and their feedback, but here is a quick overview of topics we hope to cover:

  1. Introduction
  2. Review Oracle Support documentation and input
  3. Open discussion on:
    1. How various organizations address browser compatibility guidelines internally
    2. Addressing end user support
    3. Any lessons learnt from recent implementation/upgrade projects
    4. Issues encountered, challenges and technology limitations surrounding browsers
