Mining Existing Data for Better Project Management: The Technical Perspective

Presented by: Burns & McDonnell Burns & McDonnell

Session ID 105510, Presented at COLLABORATE17

Many utilities struggle with collecting and analyzing massive quantities of data generated from their various work management, asset management, financial, and other systems.  Burns & McDonnell and their utility clients are collaborating to develop a system that captures this data and put it to use improving their project management capabilities.
The solution involves Primavera P6, spreadsheets, client purpose-built applications, Oracle BI and Hyperion for financial data, extracting information and loading this data into Primavera P6 via Emerald P6-Loader.  The data is then combined with traditional project schedules and incorporated into easily read executive level reporting using BI Publisher.  Using this system we have been successful in improving project delivery from 50% on-time/on-budget to over 90% for one gas utility client..

  • Provide insight into leveraging existing data as part of your Project Management system
  • Provide an in-depth look at the methodology of the solution implemented
  • Demonstrate reports and measures gathered from the combined data.
