During RECONNECT Envision 21, Senior Vice President of Oracle Applications, Paco Aubrejuan, presented the PeopleSoft investment strategy and roadmap.

PeopleSoft Investment Strategy and Roadmap

Oracle continues to invest in PeopleSoft with a rolling 10+ years of premier support, meaning it is currently promised through 2032 with no end in sight. With that investment, Oracle aims to achieve two primary objectives:

  • Increase value for the line of business
  • Reduce operational costs

Some of the ways these objectives are reached are displayed in the image below.

PeopleSoft and Oracle Cloud

In order to work with customers in the overall management and transition over time of enterprise applications, it’s important to share the added value and cost savings you get with the cloud. Oracle Cloud Applications are ready for PeopleSoft customers. To take advantage of their increased modernization and technological innovation, you have two options. You can “lift and shift” your PeopleSoft environment to Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) or leverage Oracle Cloud technologies such as Oracle Digital Assistant and Autonomous Database by integrating them into your current PeopleSoft enterprise.

If you’re hesitant to adopt Oracle Cloud Applications because you are happy with the way your enterprise is currently run, that’s understandable. However, the shift to the Cloud is more than just a replacement for what you have with PeopleSoft. Beyond operational cost efficiencies, the Cloud brings with it a number of innovations in the process stack. Some of these are outlined in the image below.

Oracle Cloud HCM Example: Marriott

Marriott selected Oracle Cloud HCM to power the mHub employee experience. They replaced multiple systems, including PeopleSoft HR. The organization went live for 750,000 associates across 170 countries in 15 languages. They launched all modules globally in December 2020, despite a brief COVID delay. This expanded previously US-only tools and programs to the global workforce.

Oracle Cloud ERP Example: Vanguard

Vanguard chose Oracle Cloud ERP as part of their firm-wide strategy for moving to the cloud. With 17,000 employees and 30 million customers across 20 countries, Vanguard replaced multiple systems, including PeopleSoft ERP. They chose Oracle Cloud ERP for resiliency, availability, and cost improvements. The move eliminated customizations and embedded Oracle leaders in the governance process.

Principal, Funds CFO & Chief Accounting Officer John Bendl explained, “The end-to-end solution… that ability to see the data and to look at that across all the finance functions and even have self-service capabilities for our business has been really powerful.”

PeopleSoft on OCI

Hundreds of customers are running PeopleSoft on OCI because of the amount of development on both the Cloud side and on the PeopleSoft side in order to make their business work most effectively.

Hybrid Approach to Oracle Cloud Example: FedEx

FedEx uses a hybrid approach as they transition to Oracle Cloud. They have moved acquisitions directly to Oracle Cloud ERP and SCM. They continue to run PeopleSoft ERP while planning a move to ERP Cloud. They’ve also moved PeopleSoft HCM to OCI. FedEx leverages Oracle Cloud Analytics, Digital Assistant, and Autonomous Database as they run their business.

According to the VP of Transformation, “FedEx is transforming its business. Oracle Cloud is a big part of this as we focus our IT resources on ways to deliver more functionality and support to the business while we reduce costs.”

Benefits of Moving to OCI

The bottom line for moving to PeopleSoft on OCI is that it’s cheaper and faster. It’s faster to make changes, scale, deploy updates, and manage the lifecycle. Especially if you need a hardware refresh, the move to OCI is an easy decision.

Additional benefits include:

  • Lower TCO than on-premises and competing clouds
  • Superior performance backed by SLAs
  • Still the PeopleSoft you know – automated migration and lifecycle management
  • Unique capabilities that enhance infrastructure availability, security, elasticity, and control

PeopleSoft Lifecycle Management

Lifecycle Management, PeopleSoft, and Oracle Cloud each have investments that work together. The image below illustrates the features and values of moving from a manual process to autonomous processing.

On the roadmap for Lifecycle Management is intelligent autonomous PeopleSoft. This takes the concept of lifecycle management & plugs it into the datascience.com platform to allow you to do predictive anomaly protection and predictive scaling. Customers have always sized for peak load. As a result of leveraging the advancements above, customers should be able to size hardware at the medium load or lower. The system will automatically scale up or down based on predictions.

PeopleSoft Cloud Manager

Cloud Manager 12 has just been released. It is a free software on OCI. Policy management is a new solution in Cloud Manager 12, which allows you to start and stop environments, scale up and down running environments, back up and restore environments, apply application PRPs to PUM environment, and do schedules or event-based management.

PeopleSoft would like to introduce you to PeopleSoft Intelligent Chat Assistant from Oracle (PICASO). PICASO is the assistant for all of PeopleSoft. There is a unified conversational experience with access to all skills from almost any Fluid page. It is role-based, cluster-enabled & multi-skilled.

The checked skills in the image below have already been delivered for PICASO, and the remaining items are on the roadmap.

PICASO Example: Loyola University Chicago

Loyola University Chicago worked with a PeopleSoft partner to create their own digital assistant for answering student, parent, and alumni questions. Their bot produced a success rate of 86 percent—even higher than the first-call help desk’s 74 percent rate. It can respond to 200 questions, including 75 specifically about COVID. The bot is multi-lingual and accessible 24/7.

Oracle Guided Learning

Oracle Guided Learning is a cloud-based service that can work with PeopleSoft to give you a guided experience on your production system. Instead of being an offline help, it is guided in real-time. It will be available for use across all PeopleSoft.

PeopleTools 8.59

In addition to the above, PeopleSoft is continuing its long-term investment in the simple, modern, PeopleSoft experience. PeopleSoft 8.59 is now generally available on OCI. It will be available on OCI for three months and then extended to on-prem, as well.

PeopleTools 8.59 significantly simplifies the PeopleSoft experience. The new search is omnipresent and available on all pages. There are no more hidden folders or duplicates. Most importantly, it tracks where users have navigated in the past to return those results at the top. It uses updated menu names, descriptions, and synonyms for improved search accuracy.

Fluid User Interface

There is continued investment in Fluid UI. One of the newly Fluidized components is Job Data. It is of central use to Human Resources. Job Data contains employee contact info, promotions, leaves of absence, retirement, pay rate changes, and awards. Customers shared functional gaps, and PeopleSoft rewrote Job Data in Fluid.

Kibana Analytics

Kibana Analytics is another area of investment for PeopleSoft. There are new dashboards and visualizations which deliver more insights to help you improve efficiencies and make informed decisions. Most exciting, though, is real-time indexing for Elasticsearch and Kibana. This allows you to enable indexes to fire when the data is updated so it indexes the new data. This will be enabled in PUM images moving forward. When you change the data, it goes right to Kibana analytics.

Some dashboards delivered and to come for Kibana are outlined below.

Kibana Example Vidant Health

Vidant Health built a custom position management dashboard showing all position data of direct reports, including open positions. Through Kibana’s interactive dashboard, the leaders can now make decisions on which departments or positions need attention significantly faster.
