Savannah River Nuclear Solutions (SRNS) was recognized at RECONNECT 18 for its successful move toward Fluid UI. The company’s goals, approach and results were all discussed during its presentation.

SRNS updated to 9.2 during the summer of 2017 and did a full Image update in June 2018. For Finance and Supply Chain, SRNS is on PUM Image 26. Human Resources is on PUM Image 25. All departments are on PeopleTools 8.56.07.

Balancing Babyboomers and Millenial Workers

Roughly fifty-one percent of SRNS’ workforce population is from the baby boomer generation, so the company worried that those users would require more guidance during the update to Fluid. However, it couldn’t ignore its millennial workers, who wanted a more modern and accessible user experience.

To bridge the gap between the needs of the two groups, SRNS decided to start by implementing only Fluid Navigation. The homepage, tiles and navigation bar for Finance and Supply Chain would move to Fluid, but their pages would remain Classic. They are hopeful about moving to Fluid pages in the future.

Upgrade Process

SRNS’ goal for this update was to have each tile contain eighty percent of the pages needed to perform the job function that the tile represented. This required defining each job function to understand what each role would need.

The final decision was to create one homepage with tiles based on the various job functions. There was an average of four tiles per role, but others have up to fourteen tiles. SRNS also allows users to personalize their homepage.

The delivered PeopleSoft materials and functions didn’t necessarily meet the needs of SRNS’ functions, so the tiles for the homepage were configured to make up for that. The company utilized the ZX Indicator that can identify and isolate the custom tiles to avoid being overwritten during any future updates.

Future Considerations

SRNS’ approach to future PUM updates is to implement Selective Adoption throughout the year as necessary. The company is also considering doing a “true-up” full Image update once a year.
