Powerful Machine Learning (ML) is now available to Oracle DBAs. Over the past few years, a number of changes have occurred making this possible. As Oracle DBAs, it is now our turn to leverage ML, enabling us to do things never before possible.

But there is a lot to learn. Everything from methodology to math to tools. And then the nagging question of, are there real machine learning use cases for the Oracle DBA?

In this presentation, I'm going to introduce you to the world of ML from a DBA perspective! This includes understanding what ML is, why use it, and why now. The ah-ha moment will occur when you realize many of our monitoring, alerting, diagnosis, and analysis skills are significantly enhanced with ML.

I will demonstrate a simple yet complete ML project using Python and the "Always Free" Oracle Autonomous Database with Oracle ML SQL Notebooks. All presentation slides, scripts, and a recording of the demonstration are available!

Containers have been embraced by the developer community, but acceptance and adoption by DBAs is more... tepid. That's understandable--why would anyone want a database that's stateless and immutable?! I started using Docker under duress and had no idea what I was doing. Since then, I've learned that Docker elegantly addresses many situations faced by DBAs, including:
- Rapidly provisioning test and development environments
- Interacting with Oracle Cloud Infrastructure databases (including ATP and ADW)
- Preparing environments for performance testing
- Building Gold images
- Exploring new technologies and features
- Discovering and confirming bugs
- Preparing for certification exams

This session is a crash course in Docker covering the terminology, concepts, skills, and practical examples needed to begin using containers to support databases.

Oracle Database and Oracle Enterprise Manager continuously introduce new and interesting features that help improve DBA productivity and maximize performance while reducing management costs. This session covers the theory behind performance diagnosis and tuning and the new capabilities in Oracle Database and Oracle Enterprise Manager, such as Performance Hub, Automatic Workload Repository, multitenant enhancements, and many others. This session provides practical recommendations and real-world best practices on when and how to best use which feature, helping DBAs with day-to-day tasks.

Robots may be the first to truly learn Machine Learning (ML) and expand into Artificial Intelligence (AI). Python is one of the keys to Machine Learning as we program the invention of Man's Mind to further replace man's most basic tasks. This session will focus on ML 101 and building the future ahead.

We are creatures of habit. We tend to stay the course concerning what we create and how we create it. But is this tendency causing us to settle for just good enough? From OBIEE to Data Visualization Desktop to Oracle Analytics Cloud… this is not your parent’s OBIEE. Maybe it’s time for a reboot?

In this presentation, we’ll explore the new face of Oracle Analytics, both literally by looking at Oracle Data Visualization, and figuratively with how advances in the platform can affect our approach and methodology. If you are new to Oracle Analytics, I’ll convince you that this product is capable of enabling a data-driven culture. If you’ve been around the block a few times with OBIEE, then I’ll make you question how you’ve delivered analytics in the past.

Data is the fuel for AI - the 21st century equivalent for what electricity did for the 20th century. AI will change everything! Companies that aggregate data from multiple sources, enriched with AI, will have a distinct advantage. Come to this session to learn how Oracle Autonomous Data Warehouse, Oracle Analytics Cloud, and Oracle Digital Assistant, offer seamless conversational access to make ad-hoc queries like nothing else before. It's like superpowers for your teams!

DBAs spend time dealing with maintenance, security, and outage issues with little time for innovation. Self-driving, self-securing, and self-repairing Autonomous Databases free data professionals to leverage their domain knowledge and data skills to extract more value from data. Oracle Machine Learning, part of Autonomous Database, “moves the algorithms to the data” for in-database processing of machine learning algorithms that eliminate data movement. Now, the entire machine learning process:  problem statement, data understanding and preparation, model building and evaluation, model apply and model deployment runs inside the Oracle Database.   Database developers perform many supporting tasks today, typically 80% of the work, but refer to them as ETL, data wrangling, data transformations, and productionizing scripts.   Come learn how ADW, ATP, and Oracle Machine Learning makes it easy for you to easily expand your valuable data skills and become “data scientists” in just 6 weeks!

Drop Tank manages gas station loyalty technologies and programs for many of America’s best-known fuel brands. Millions of transactions and diverse POS systems bring the complexity of both scale and scope to their cloud-based data warehouse and analytics system. You’ll hear how ADW, OAC, ODI, and Oracle CX cloud work together to provide reporting and analytic insight to marketers and program managers. This real-world case study will highlight what worked well, what didn’t, and what the future promises.

Objectives:

  • Share the challenges that Drop Tank faces in integrating diverse data sources into a comprehensive solution in Autonomous Data Warehouse Cloud.
  • Discuss the data modeling challenges necessary for reporting complex retail transactions across thousands of individual store locations and diverse audiences for analytics.
  • Review the guiding principles and preferences that helped this implementation succeed. Discuss what it’s like to be on the cutting edge of Oracle’s technologies.

Oracle Autonomous Database services are built around the Oracle database and come with fully automated with self-driving, self-securing, self-repairing, and offer two options optimized by workloads: Autonomous Data Warehouse (ADW) and Autonomous Transaction Processing (ATP). In this session, you will learn the easy provisioning process of these two database cloud services, learn how to navigate the service console for service management, how to access the databases, define the database objects, load the data and run the query and transactions. For Autonomous Data Warehouse (ADW),  you will how to import and export large sets of data to/from ADW database, learn how to use data visualization tool built in the Oracle cloud to run advanced analytics and machine learning applications as well as some troubleshooting experiences and tips using ADW. We will also discuss the options and process to migrate your on-premise databases to these database cloud services.
