Session ID: 100120

Oracle database upgrades can seem like a daunting task if you are like most DBAs who only upgrade every few years. What if you have a stand-alone (non-Oracle RAC) database and want to switch from a non-container database to a container/pluggable configuration? I know this sounds like a lot more work, adding to an already stressful situation. However, please know it only requires a few extra steps and results in greatly improved resource utilization. This presentation provides step-by-step instructions for upgrading from Oracle 12.2 to 19c and converting from a non-container to a container/pluggable configuration. I’ll even throw in the steps for upgrading an OEM repository to this configuration at no extra charge.

With the recent announcement at Oracle OpenWorld, starting in Oracle Database 19c, we are allowed to have up to 3 pluggable databases per container database.  Effective Oracle Database 20c, non-containerized databases will no longer be supported.

As an attendee of this session, you will receive a free copy of the PDB Me to Oracle Cloud book written by Oracle ACEs.  Come learn what it takes to effectively create, configure, manage and monitor Oracle PDBs.  Learn all the latest and greatest new features of Oracle PDBs from Oracle 12.2/18c/19c.

By this point, everyone has heard of pluggable databases.  But, what about Application Containers?  In this presentation, we will discuss what they are, why you might use them, and how to build and maintain them.  They are not heavily documented yet, so I will also discuss some tips, tricks, and lessons learned in my initial construction of this extension to the Oracle Multi-tenant Cloud Architecture.

Join Anuj Mohan as he delves into several of the most important features of Oracle 12c Container Databases. In his 1 hour presentation, Anuj will speak on the following: CDB/PDB Introduction , PDB - Explanation of Value (EOV) , CDB/PDB Concepts , Shared / Exclusive components ,  Accessing CDB's/PDB's * Quick overview: migration options to 12c…

In a DevOps world, database development presents some unique challenges. Using individual development databases is a big change from the shared development database. Determining how to build and test these databases can be a complex challenge.  How to manage the possibility of databases and database software scattered across a large development environment can be…

Oracle 12c and 18c Multitenant Container databases were designed to consolidate databases. The provisioning and management advantages of using pluggable databases greatly simplify database operations. However, the database security model becomes more complex to accommodate pluggable databases. This session will provide a deep dive into authentication and authorization when using the multitenant option, including users, roles, profiles, and privileges.  Challenges and nuances in managing the security of a multitenant database will be highlighted.

With an ever-growing number of available virtualization and container solutions as well as cloud computing orchestration tools, the question arises which of these solutions and tools are best suited to operate an Oracle Database, in particular an Oracle RAC database? This session will therefore provide an overview of supported solutions and tools to operate an Oracle RAC database.

With the new Application Containers feature in Oracle Database 12c Release 2, Oracle has opened the mechanisms of the container database architecture for applications. Now in a container database application, containers can be defined and application databases can share the data model and common data. This simplifies the installation and the upgrade these applications. In this session the new feature and possible use cases are presented.

RMAN as most know it, is one of the most important utilities in a DBAs arsenal. In earlier releases it is fair to say that occasionally it did create havoc and some DBA's were afraid to use it. Is it too complex? “Backup database” - does not look to complex does it? In Oracle Database 12c, Multitenant was introduced and RMAN received a lot of attention with exciting new options. From full to partial backups, using cumulative or differential incremental backups, image copies or backup sets, in this session we will demonstrate how you can use RMAN to help protect your data as well as manage backup and recovery of your Oracle Database 12c Multitenant environment - including backups in cloud based solutions.
