This was a Top 10 Presentation at VMorld 2016. Databases by their very nature are Monster VM’s. If Monster VM’s are not virtualized properly they will never perform well and can negatively performance of other VM’s on the hosts. In this presentation we will teach you how to properly virtualize Monster VM’s with a focus on…

The concept of virtualization, snapshots and similar technology is mind boggling, to say the least.  This session will take you through basic to complex concepts that encompass today’s virtualization products.

NoSQL based databases such as MongoDB, Cassandra and Couchbase have become mainstream and Oracle RDBMS heavy enterprises are struggling to take them on. In order to be successful, Database organizations in these enterprises need to understand and create database selection criteria, NoSQL design and deployment standards, standard operating procedures (SOPs), adequate QA/PoC testing, vendor management, skill upgrading, cost management, data modeling standards, etc. In this talk, we will make the case for introducing NoSQL into the enterprise and use a "Mind Map" to categorize various activities along these vectors. We will "walk the tree" along each of these vectors and use this structure to expose, explain and address these challenges. Interactive Q & A is encouraged!

This session will help attendees understand what is required to meet the needs of business in this everchanging environment. We must evolve our current data solutions to support better and more robust knowledge management. This session will help people understand how an organization can evolve their data warehouse and reportinging solutions to ones which are…

There is a strong perception among ORACLE DBAs that Hadoop is a "thing" for developers. One can't use it effectively, unless he or she is is a decent Java programmer, able to write sophisticated MapReduce jobs. Nothing can be further from the truth! Hadoop is all about managing data, so, of course, it still needs…

Cloud-based relational databases provide advanced features and architectures that enable high availability, backup and restore, and many other features for Oracle Database workloads. In this session learn best practices for using the features of a cloud-based RDS in a variety of single- and multiinstance topologies, and backup/restore using snapshots. This session teaches you to take…

The benefits of knowing your data before embarking on a BI or big data project are endless. Sure you can buy a tool to help with this. Or you could use R, an open source tool. This session will dig into methods for using R to connect to your data source to see visual and…
