Application Express (APEX) continues to grow in popularity for application development, both for new business use cases as well as migration from older development technologies (e.g. PowerBuilder). But many developers and DBAs alike aren’t necessarily aware that APEX is now available within Oracle Autonomous Transaction Processing, a powerful self-contained set of Cloud-based database services.

This session demonstrates a real-life business scenario – the creation of a financial services/retirement planning application – that combines best practices for APEX development efforts with ATP’s simplicity to provide a stable deployment for hybrid OLTP and reporting workloads.

In this session join Oracle Database Product Management to learn more about using JSON in the Oracle Database. Learn about some of the new innovative ways that the Oracle Database can be used to load, store, and manage JSON and take advantage of the enterprise class features that Oracle provides so well.

We will also take a look into the unique Oracle Database features to leverage memory-persistent technologies for fast ingestion and retrieval of attribute-value pair data.  Other topics that are covered include the SQL language enhancements for complete flexibility and ease of use when working with JSON.

The session will also be discussing some of the enhancements being released in Oracle Database 20c for addressing the use of JSON.

Every database developer knows that PL/SQL functions can be used in SQL queries. However, not many are aware of the measurable cost of SQL-to-PL/SQL context switches. Even fewer can definitively answer how many times their functions will be called (depending upon the complexity of queries or portion of the query where the function is located). This presentation sheds some light on this gray area. The answer is actually very simple: the number of calls is driven by the cardinality of involved tables plus the final execution plan of your query (after all query-transformation steps). Unfortunately, GUESSING what exactly the Cost-Based Optimizer will do to your query is very difficult. This presentation will show you how to KNOW rather than guess and how to use this knowledge to optimize the performance of your database.

Cloud is transforming the enterprise and the career path of the DBA. See how. As cloud gains momentum and migrations of applications and databases become more common, the question is often asked: "Does Cloud mean the end of the DBA?" Cloud is likely not the end of the DBA, but instead an agent in unprecedented change. This webcast will cover how Cloud is bringing about that evolution and what today's DBAs must know to be successful in a Cloud-enabled future.

The future is here, let's take advantage of it today!

Containers have been embraced by the developer community, but acceptance and adoption by DBAs is more... tepid. That's understandable--why would anyone want a database that's stateless and immutable?! I started using Docker under duress and had no idea what I was doing. Since then, I've learned that Docker elegantly addresses many situations faced by DBAs, including:
- Rapidly provisioning test and development environments
- Interacting with Oracle Cloud Infrastructure databases (including ATP and ADW)
- Preparing environments for performance testing
- Building Gold images
- Exploring new technologies and features
- Discovering and confirming bugs
- Preparing for certification exams

This session is a crash course in Docker covering the terminology, concepts, skills, and practical examples needed to begin using containers to support databases.

This presentation addresses the essential questions regarding JSON and the Oracle Database:
-How to load JSON documents into the database?
-Storing JSON documents or spreading the contents into relational tables?
-How do I create JSON files from data?
-How to query to large volumes of JSON documents fast and efficient?
-How do I publish JSON documents from the Database?

All those questions will be answered using examples and demos. This presentation contains detailed live demos. All demos will be made available for download.

DBAs spend time dealing with maintenance, security, and outage issues with little time for innovation. Self-driving, self-securing, and self-repairing Autonomous Databases free data professionals to leverage their domain knowledge and data skills to extract more value from data. Oracle Machine Learning, part of Autonomous Database, “moves the algorithms to the data” for in-database processing of machine learning algorithms that eliminate data movement. Now, the entire machine learning process:  problem statement, data understanding and preparation, model building and evaluation, model apply and model deployment runs inside the Oracle Database.   Database developers perform many supporting tasks today, typically 80% of the work, but refer to them as ETL, data wrangling, data transformations, and productionizing scripts.   Come learn how ADW, ATP, and Oracle Machine Learning makes it easy for you to easily expand your valuable data skills and become “data scientists” in just 6 weeks!

You've got lots of languages to choose from when it comes to building apps. You could do "ground up" - 100% hand-coded - yet that often leads to over-engineered solutions completed behind schedule, over budget, or both. But have you heard of low-code tools? You're still going to do some coding, but these products will help you deliver your app faster and cheaper, with more consistency and built-in security. Attend this session to learn about the low-code approach and related tools. You might discover a fast track to delivering all the applications your users are clamoring for.
