How Does Macy’s Handle Large Turnover?

Teresa Johnson, Director of HR Technology for Macy’s Inc and Ben Blair, Specialist Master for Deloitte recently discussed How Macy’s handles large turnover utilizing Oracle HCM Cloud at Oracle HCM World. Below are some tips and tricks gathered from that presentation.

  • You can change your business process and you can reorganize your company without a systems change. If you can do this before implementing a cloud transformation, you will be ahead of the game. It is more helpful to develop a business process when you know already who the business planners are.
  • Develop great partnerships. Macy’s developed partnerships with Oracle and Deloitte that made the transformation possible. A great partnership was key to Oracle’s willingness to help Macy’s with several of their “fit-gap” concerns.

Through the process, Macy’s changed from having HR handle terminations to having managers handle terminations.

  • When moving the responsibility of terminations from HR to managers, expect the change to be difficult. Offer additional training and make the timeliness of terminations part of the performance metrics for managers.
  • Macy’s considers less than seven days, final pay
  • EIN numbers – not divisions – drive Oracle HCM Cloud
  • HR and Payroll need to work together closely when creating processes related to Oracle HCM Cloud

A couple details regarding mass terminations:

  • The last day worked must be equal to or before the actual termination date.
  • If there is an existing terminated row for an employee, a new termination row cannot be processed.
  • Once a row is rejected, it cannot be reapproved.
