Integrating PeopleSoft with Oracle’s Internet of Things Asset Monitoring Cloud Service

Starting with PeopleSoft Update Image 33, you can integrate PeopleSoft Asset Management and Maintenance Management with the Oracle Internet of Things Asset Monitoring Cloud service. PeopleSoft and the Oracle IoT Asset Monitoring Cloud service enable you to gain real-time visibility to your asset’s location, health, and utilization. You can track assets anytime, anywhere. Additionally, you can predict asset behavior based on a combination of sensor and contextual data. Predictions use machine learning to identify potential issues before they become problems.

Let’s look at an example.

IoT Asset Monitoring Cloud Example

Say you are the Maintenance Supervisor using the IoT Asset Monitoring Cloud service to monitor runway sweeping machines. You see several assets that IoT is monitoring from the PeopleSoft organization. PeopleSoft Asset Management already has definitions for these assets, so there is no need for duplicate entry.

Select the number to take a closer look at the assets. Using connected sensors, the map shows the location, movement, and health of the airport runway sweepers. Along the bottom of the map view, you can see key performance indicators displayed for the assets. IoT Asset Monitoring Cloud ships with pre-defined KPIs. You can also configure custom KPIs specific to your organization.

Select an asset to drill down on the asset and its sensors. A photo of the asset appears along with a list of sensors for the asset.

To the right of the asset ID is a graph icon that you can select to visualize sensor data that is received from the device. This is especially useful when investigating asset health. You can see sensor data in real-time or for up to 30 days.

Select the first three sensors to visualize this airport sweeper’s engine oil pressure, engine temperature, and engine vibration. The default sensor data displayed is for the last seven days.

The system automatically creates incidents from the collected sensor data based on the rules that you define in IoT Asset Monitoring Cloud. In this example, you’ll notice that there are several open incidents that require attention.

Select the Incidents icon in the left navigation pane to see a list of open incidents that require attention.

For the first incident, which is marked as a high priority, you will see that there is an overheating runway sweeper.

Above the list of incidents, a set of charts summarizes the status of incidents, the count of incident priorities, and incident types.

Incidents generated in IoT create a condition-based maintenance (CBM) alert in Maintenance Management. You can open up your PeopleSoft system to take a closer look at these alerts.

The system notifies the appropriate maintenance personnel in PeopleSoft when IoT generates an incident for an asset. To view incident details, select the notification to drill down into the Condition-Based Maintenance Alert page.

Initiate the action that you want to take, such as updating the preventive maintenance schedule or creating an ad-hoc work order. For this example, we will create a work order for this IoT incident. After creating the work order, you automatically return to the CBM Alert page, and the ID for the new work order appears. Use the hyperlink to review the new work order.

Conclusion

By integrating PeopleSoft with IoT Asset Monitoring Cloud, you can accelerate your existing asset tracking and maintenance business process. You can leverage the new IoT Asset Monitoring Cloud integration in order to reduce your asset downtime through condition-based maintenance alerts sent to PeopleSoft Maintenance Management.
