Optimizing Par Inventory

Abstract:
PeopleSoft provides excellent tools for Healthcare organizations to replenish Par Inventory. Through the use of the Inventory, Mobile Inventory, and Purchasing modules, PeopleSoft can replenish Par Inventory accurately and efficiently to planned inventory levels. Where PeopleSoft falls short is proving tools to assist organizations in setting the correct Replenishment Parameters for Par Inventory. PeopleSoft provides no system calculations for setting Optimal Order Quantity, Fixed Order Quantity, or Maximum Quantity. There is an Average Usage calculation, but it is not suitable for most organizations. In this session, we will explore how PeopleSoft can be enhanced to provide tools to assist in calculating proper Par Replenishment parameters and to automate the update of Par Location definitions based on these calculations. Additionally, we will look at how bolt-on Advanced Planning applications can be used to account for trending usage over time, seasonal variations, and one-time unique events.

This presentation will demonstrate how UF Health Jacksonville transformed its PeopleSoft data into actionable insights using Oracle Analytics Cloud (OAC). Over the past five years, our team has leveraged OAC to resolve complex operational and management reporting issues—achieving an average year-over-year improvement rate of 86% in business process visibility and data-driven decisions. The session will walk attendees through a real-world scenario: identifying a problem within the PeopleSoft environment, building a targeted OAC dataset, and designing intuitive dashboards for both self-service users and BI professionals. This session is ideal for PeopleSoft technical leads, functional users, analysts, and executives who are ready to modernize reporting and unlock the full potential of their ERP data. Attendees will learn how to structure datasets effectively, align reporting with business goals, and create scalable solutions to continuously resolve business challenges—turning data complexity into clarity.

Currently, Ken leads as the Vice President and CIO at U.S. Silica. He is responsible for defining and executing its business technology strategy and leading its digital transformation initiatives.
Ken previously served as CIO for Global Partners LP, SGR Energy, and MRE Consulting. At each company, he contributed to tremendous growth and transformation. He actively participated in Global Partners’ revenue growth from $6 billion to $20 billion in four years. SGR Energy had 1700% revenue growth, and the company was named Houston’s fastest-growing privately held company by the Houston Business Journal. While at MRE, Ken turned an internal project into a marketable, adding a new revenue stream for the company.
Ken serves on the Quest Oracle User Community’s board of directors and is a board member with the Friends of Energy Institute, supporting the Energy Institute High School. Ken is also an Advisory Board member for the CIO Executive Council and a mentor in their leadership development program.
In 2022 Ken received the Houston CIO of the Year Orbie award. He has been named a Computerworld Premier 100 Technology leader, is a CIO100 award winner, and has twice been recognized as an InformationWeek 500 Top Technology Innovator. Ken is recognized as an industry thought leader, a regular speaker at business and association conferences, and featured in multiple media publications.
Ken holds a Bachelor of Science in Management & Leadership from Northeastern University and attended Graceland College, where he played football and baseball. Today, Ken makes Houston, Texas, his home.
