Turning PeopleSoft into the Heart of a Hybrid ERP Powerhouse for Your Organization
Presented by:
Aaron Engelsrud, Capella University
Abstract:
In today’s fast-evolving ERP landscape, the rush to adopt cloud and SaaS solutions often leads organizations to undervalue the systems already delivering critical business outcomes. This session reframes PeopleSoft not as a legacy burden, but as the strategic heart of a hybrid ERP model—one that blends the depth and stability of traditional ERP with the flexibility and innovation of modern platforms. We’ll explore how to position PeopleSoft at the center of a hybrid architecture by integrating with cloud services, connecting to SaaS applications, and extending functionality through APIs, automation, and modern observability tools. Attendees will see real-world examples of how organizations are deploying PeopleSoft in environments like OCI, scaling infrastructure, and evolving their ERP footprint without abandoning what already works. You’ll walk away with actionable strategies to modernize your ERP approach, optimize your PeopleSoft investment, and build an ERP powerhouse that supports agility, resilience, and long-term success.

Demystifying the Fringe Expense Accounting Processing for Higher Ed
Presented by:
Sharath chandra Vanam, University of California – UCOP
Abstract:
Universities face unique challenges in accurately accounting for employee fringe expenses due to the complexity and diversity of their workforce. To streamline this process, many institutions employ a simplified General Ledger (GL) accounting approach by estimating fringe costs and grouping employees into broadly defined fringe categories. This methodology enables more efficient budgeting and financial planning throughout the fiscal year. At year-end, actual expenses are reconciled against these estimates, and fringe rates are adjusted as needed to maintain accuracy. To achieve this, robust and efficient systems must be developed to ensure accounting accuracy and to meet service level agreements (SLAs) for the university’s largest expense. This presentation will provide insights into a high-level architectural and modular framework, as well as scheduling techniques, designed to efficiently process fringe benefit assessments. This presentation could be helpful for higher ed institutions working on building or streamlining the payroll fringe expense accounting.

Stay Vanilla, Look Modern: Reimagining YOUR PeopleSoft UX
Presented by:
Bill Freire, University of California Office of the President
Abstract:
PeopleTools provides a powerful set of capabilities to create an engaging, efficient, and intuitive user experience, and this session will show how to make the most of them. The University of California recently completed a transformative project that fully leveraged delivered PeopleTools features and Gideon Taylor’s WebUX techniques to personalize content based on each employee’s role, responsibilities, and circumstances. No additional system layer was required, just thoughtful design, optimized configuration, and a focus on minimizing clicks while maximizing usability. This initiative not only elevated the user experience but also simplified the technical environment. By consolidating functionality and streamlining the interface, the team was able to retire legacy systems, resulting in measurable savings in operating costs and maintenance. In just a few months, the project demonstrated how a PeopleTools environment can deliver a sleek, app-like interface while staying true to delivered features. If you want to see how to unlock the full potential of PeopleTools UX, this session is for you.
