Welcome to our Database and Technology Oracle Database Meet-up calls! We’re excited to have you join us as we connect and share insights. These calls are designed specifically for our valued customer users, fostering a vibrant community where knowledge and experiences are exchanged.
To ensure you can fully participate, please follow these simple steps (if you have an account, skip to step 2):

Step 2: Join the DB&T – Oracle Database Community: After creating your Quest account, join our DB&T – Oracle Database SIG Community and DB&T Community News & Events pages. Stay informed by setting up your notifications for the group, ideally to at least weekly.

Abstract
Learn how to set up Data Guard using best practices. This session begins with a brief history of Data Guard and how it evolved into its current form. We will then explore new features in Oracle Data Guard 12c Release 2, 18c, 19c, 21c and 23ai.
In addition to demonstrating how easy it is to set up Data Guard, this session will cover fundamental best practices and reference architectures that DBAs must know to protect their Oracle ecosystem. The author of the *Oracle Data Guard Handbook* will show how DBAs should set up, configure, and monitor mission-critical Data Guard environments, including Active Data Guard.
Come see Data Guard best practices in action. The session will focus on:
– Building the physical standby
– Monitoring and maintaining the physical standby
– Configuring Data Guard Broker
– Performing backup and recovery with RMAN
– Setting archive retention
– Switchover with refreshable PDBs
– Subset standbys with PDBs
Attendees will receive access to all scripts needed to automate the Data Guard configuration.
Bio
Charles Kim is an Oracle ACE Director, VMware vExpert, Oracle Certified DBA, and certified in Exadata, Oracle Linux, Oracle Cloud, and RAC. He joined the Oracle ACE Program in 2008 and became an Oracle ACE Director in 2009. Kim also became a VMware vExpert in 2013.
He specializes in cloud, Exadata, RAC, and virtualization (VMware, KVM, and Oracle VM) and has co-authored 11 books on the Oracle ecosystem, including Data Guard, Oracle Cloud Pocket Reference Guide and Exadata Expert Handbook.
Kim is the founder and CEO of Viscosity North America, a consulting firm focused on Oracle Engineered Systems, RAC, virtualization, Cloud, and performance tuning. With over 30 years of experience, he regularly presents at Oracle conferences worldwide on topics like database consolidations, performance tuning, and high availability.
