AI in Oracle Fusion - Have You Started Your Journey?

In the rapidly evolving world of enterprise technology, “AI” has become more than just a buzzword; it is a fundamental shift in how businesses operate. Yet, despite the non-stop headlines, many organizations feel a sense of “AI fatigue” or are hesitant to take the first step.

In a recent Quest Oracle Cloud Community webinar, Debra Lilley, Oracle ACE Director, explored the current state of AI within the Oracle Fusion ecosystem and addressed a critical question: Are we being left behind?

Navigating the AI Hype Cycle

Every major innovation follows a “hype cycle”—a curve of inflated expectations followed by a “trough of disillusionment” before finally reaching a “plateau of productivity”. AI is unique because it isn’t just one cycle; it is multiple overlapping waves of innovation.

While there is a massive thirst for knowledge, many companies are still in the learning phase rather than the buying phase. The conversation has shifted from “What is AI?” to “What can I actually use it for in my organization?”

Oracle’s Strategy: Built-in, Not Bolted-on

One of the most significant advantages for Oracle Fusion users is how AI is integrated. Oracle’s strategy is to facilitate AI at every level of the “stack”—from the hardware and cloud infrastructure (OCI) to the applications themselves.

Key highlights of Oracle’s AI approach include:

  • Embedded and Free: AI features are embedded directly within the Fusion SaaS applications. As long as you are using these tools within Fusion, they are included at no additional cost.
  • Pervasive Integration: Unlike competitors who may “bolt on” AI from third-party vendors, Oracle owns the entire stack, allowing AI to be built into the core of the application.
  • Flexibility: While most users will benefit from embedded features, Oracle also allows organizations to bring their own large language models (LLMs) or use industry-specific engines from partners.

How to Get Started

The pace of change can be daunting, but the goal of AI in Fusion is to increase productivity and simplify complex tasks, not to make things more difficult. Whether it’s through document recognition, natural language processing, or generative AI, the tools are already at your fingertips within the Oracle Cloud.

The most important step is to move past the disillusionment and start identifying the specific use cases that will drive value for your business today.
