Web OMW in EnterpriseOne

Web OMW

In a recent presentation, the Oracle JDE Product team revealed the latest updates for Web Object Management Workflow (Web OMW) across Release 22 and Release 23.

Web OMW was originally created for managing UDO, but as time and technology has evolved, customers have requested more and more benefits within the web platform. The Oracle team has listened to requests and been working steadily to release more solutions related to the web client.

Web OMW in Release 22 and 23

Release 22: External Applications

In Release 22, the primary focus was support for external applications.

External applications are some sort of tool you’ve developed outside of EnterpriseOne that you’re using to enhance or augment the interface of E1 applications. These are typically linked to an AIS Server to call logic or run orchestrations in the background.

External forms are E1 applications with support for:

  • Processing options
  • Versions
  • Data structures for form interconnects
  • Contextual content in CafeOne layouts
  • Help Content

These forms can also take the form of tasks that you may add to menus, add to favorites, launch from FastPath, launch from E1 Pages, include in Springboard, and launch from a custom exit in Form Extensions.

Many of these tools are plug and play and easy to use. Web OMW allows you to create the definition of the new application, find the URL it links to, and then test it.

Previously, you were unable to test these applications inside of E1. Release 22 solves this issue, and Release 23 goes a few steps further.

Release 23: Web Enabled Object Management Workbench

New features within Release 23 include:

  • A new data structure design tool that runs within Web OMW
    • Use case: Workflow
  • The ability to combine Spec and UDO objects into one project
  • The option to import/export objects and projects

You may also combine spec-based objects and UDO projects in one single interface with Web OMW. The project will combine these objects, transport itself through the statuses, and complete the database actions through a single interface. This enhancement came as a result of SIG requests.

These enhancements bring value to your business through:

  • Reduced dependency on Windows Development Client for OMW Operations
  • Reduced time spent in OMW Operations = Improved Administrator Performance
  • Managing spec & non-spec-based objects via Web OMW
  • Enabling orchestration of admin apps
  • Providing scheduling and notifications of admin apps

Additionally, there’s a new kernel type on Enterprise Server called OMW Kernel that is designed to support Update Manager and Web OMW processes. OMW Kernel is leveraged by software updates and web OMW processes and offloads the JAVA process out of Call Object Kernel.

Key Takeaways

Oracle continues to release features related to Web OMW so you can innovate with ease.

Release 22 brings extra value through:

  • Increased user agility to create, test, and deploy new external form via WebClient in minutes.
  • Reduced dependency on Development Client & Form Design Aid (FDA).
  • Eliminated package build & deploy to test.

Release 23 goes beyond these features by:

  • Enabling additional JDE OMW operations executed over the web client, including:
    • Create workflow and data structure objects
    • Import and export Spec objects and projects
    • Combine Spec and UDO objects in a single project
    • Add or delete projects
    • Add objects to projects/remove objects from projects
    • Remove checkout
    • Logging
    • Move/copy objects between projects
    • Advance project with transfer activity rules
  • Introducing a new kernel type to manage OMW processing on the Enterprise Server that is leveraged by Software updates and web OMW processes and offloads JAVA process out of call object kernel.
