McDonald’s Corporation - Burgers, fries & more, now in the Cloud

McDonald’s At a Glance

38000+ restaurants
70000+ employees
95+ countries

Everybody knows McDonald’s. Its golden arches can be found around the world in North America, South America, Europe, Asia, Africa and the Pacific. With more than 38,000 restaurants and over 70,000 employees world-wide, the scale of the company’s operations is vast. In July 2021, McDonald’s shifted its North American HCM solution to the Cloud, moving from Lawson HR & Payroll to Oracle Fusion Cloud HCM.

Kathy Froehlich, Director Business Operations & Data Integration at McDonald’s Corp and member of the Quest Cloud HCM Executive Advisory Board, recently sat down with Quest to share insights from their Move to Cloud experience.

Q:  What drove the McDonald’s Move to Cloud strategy?
A:  The company needed to modernize its HR and Payroll systems in North America and were looking for a product to support that modernization. Oracle Fusion Apps fit the bill.

Q:  Which apps and which modules is McDonald’s using?
A:  We went live in July 2021 with Oracle Cloud HCM and to date we have deployed Core HR, Time & Attendance, Payroll and Absence Management.

Q:  What are you biggest successes to date?
A:  Payroll processing times have been brought down significantly since go-live. Incident tickets are also beginning to come down.

McDonald’s has deployed 4 Cloud HCM modules to date:

Core HR, Time & Attendance, Payroll & Absence Management

Q:  What has been the biggest challenge to date? How have you overcome it?
A:  We continue to struggle with 3rd party integrations. Some of this is in our own implementation, but we have high rates of integration failures and inefficient error notification. To address these issues, we have narrowed our focus to the most critical payroll integrations and are beginning to see some stabilization.

Reporting within the Cloud HCM modules is not adequate for our needs. Our largest number of service requests comes from reporting needs. We are therefore exploring Oracle Analytics Cloud for payroll operations reporting.

Q:  What are your top 2-3 pain points?
A:  Integrations, reporting and one process in particular at the moment: support for payroll check escheatment. We have found a workaround for escheatment, but wish Oracle provided more support.
