Hey JDE Connection listeners – Chandra and Paul here! In this episode, we’re talking about something that often flies under the radar but has the power to completely change the way you experience JD Edwards: UX One.

If you’ve ever heard someone say JDE feels “outdated,” this episode is for you. Because the truth is—if your JDE still looks like it did 10 or 15 years ago—it’s not because it has to. The tools to make it look, feel, and perform like a modern ERP are already built in.

Why UX One Still Matters

UX One isn’t new. It came out years ago, but as Paul pointed out, it’s one of those features that many customers still haven’t fully taken advantage of. And that’s a missed opportunity.

UX One is all about delivering a modern, intuitive user experience—one that’s role-based, visual, and built for the way people actually work today.

The heart of it is the Alert, Analyze, Act paradigm.

  • Alert: Identify exceptions or issues that need attention.
  • Analyze: Surface data visually so you can make decisions quickly.
  • Act: Take immediate action without jumping between screens.

As Paul explained, it’s all about helping users “manage by exception” instead of hunting through menus and reports.

The Precursor to AI

Chandra made an interesting point during our chat—UX One was really the precursor to AI in JDE.

If you think about it, the foundation of AI is pattern recognition: noticing what you regularly do, how you respond to problems, and automating that decision-making over time. UX One does that visually and interactively—today.

So before layering AI on top, it makes sense to master these built-in tools that already help you work smarter.

It’s All About the Roles

UX One includes more than 50 out-of-the-box role-based pages, each designed for a specific persona—like Maintenance Manager, AP Manager, Payroll Manager, or even Blend Management in the wine industry.

Each page combines:

  • Watchlists to flag key issues
  • Analytics for visual insights
  • Springboards for quick navigation

As Paul described, these pages let users start and end their day in one place—seeing what needs attention, analyzing it with visual charts, and taking action directly.

Build Your Own (Like LEGOs)

The best part? You don’t have to stick to Oracle’s definitions of roles. You can personalize and combine what’s delivered—mixing watchlists, analytics, and components to fit your organization’s structure. Whether you’ve got a Shared Services Manager who handles both AP and AR or a Field Manager who also oversees maintenance, you can design your own UX One pages without customizing the code.

As Paul put it, “These are all Legos. Plug, play, and rearrange however you want.”

Midwesternism of the Day

As we joked, this week’s Midwesternism means “a really long time.” Whether it’s running a marathon, upgrading your E1 environment, or perfecting your UX One setup, we hope it doesn’t take this long.

Until next time, let’s keep learning, sharing, and laughing together.

Toodles!
