Hosted by Chandra Wobschall and Paul Houtkooper

Hello, JDE enthusiasts! We’re your hosts, Chandra Wobschall and Paul Houtkooper, bringing you a special episode of The JDE Connection that we captured live from BLUEPRINT 4D, where we dove into the world of JDE Resources and how to effectively navigate them.

Going Live and Interactive

We kicked off our live session by setting the stage for an interactive experience. We wanted to step away from the traditional podcast format and engage directly with you, our listeners. So, we placed a mic in the middle of the room, inviting everyone to share their thoughts, questions, and even some light-hearted heckling.

Understanding JDE Resources

Our main goal with this episode was to illuminate the vast array of JDE resources available. We often hear from newcomers and even seasoned users about the challenge of knowing where to look for specific information. So, we decided to provide real-world examples to guide you through the process.

Learning Through Shared Experience

We expressed our belief that context is crucial in learning. By continuing to share our experiences and hearing yours, we all grow together. After all, no one person knows it all, and this community thrives on collective knowledge and shared experiences. As a recovering accountant masquerading as a senior business analyst and a software developer masquerading as a vice president, we bring diverse perspectives to the podcast. This blend of backgrounds helps us approach problems from different angles, and we hope our discussions spark new ideas for you.

Exploring Resources Through Context

We dove into practical examples to demonstrate how to utilize JDE resources effectively in hopes that providing context would enhance the audience’s ability to learn. Below are a few examples:

  • Object Usage and System Performance: Chandra shared how sometimes she needs to visualize things and when she engages her CNC it would help if she could see the system architecture to understand it better. Paul directed her to LearnJDE and Oracle’s Cloud Infrastructure documentation for diagrams that represent an ideal setup, regardless of the actual infrastructure.
  • Resource Tracking and Updates: We talked about staying current with JDE updates. Chandra shared how she uses LearnJDE’s product catalog to identify new features her company is missing out on. Paul and Chandra both emphasized the importance of understanding the full scope of changes, including security patches and lifetime support policies, when evaluating risk.
  • Troubleshooting with Logs and Data Browser: Troubleshooting is a significant part of our daily tasks. Chandra’s go to is My Oracle Support and Work Center to diagnose issues. Paul and Chandra discussed the “opportunity” to improve error handling within Work Center to make it more intuitive.

Hearing from the Audience

The interaction didn’t stop with us; audience members shared their insights and preferred tools as well. Here are a few examples:

  • Object Browser: One guest highlighted how the PatWel Group tool, JDE Object Browser, helps them run individual functions and compare data selections across environments.
  • Using Forums and Networking: Another highlighted the importance of forums like JDEList for community advice and sharing specific challenges.
  • Leveraging Quest and Regional User Groups: Chandra stressed the value of being involved with Quest and attending SIG meetings. These platforms are not just for learning; they’re for influencing JDE’s roadmap and connecting with peers over common challenges.

Wrapping Up

As is tradition, we concluded our session with a bit of fun, educating everyone on another Midwesternism of the day.

We hope you enjoy this live episode of The JDE Connection recorded at BLUEPRINT 4D and that our approach to discussing JDE Resources through real-world application is effective. Remember, if you have topics you want us to explore or if you’re interested in joining us for an episode, don’t hesitate to reach out.

Until next time, let’s keep learning, sharing, and laughing together. Toodles!
