Custom JDE Front-Ends in 2026: How AI Changes the Build-vs-Buy Decision

This session was presented at BLUEPRINT 4D 2026.

Native JDE modernization tools — Pages, UDOs, Widgets, Form Extensions, UX One — have come a long way in the last decade, and for many use cases they are enough. But most JDE organizations eventually hit a ceiling: workflows that don’t fit the page paradigm, mobile use cases the native toolset wasn’t built for, or user-experience expectations employees now import from their consumer apps. At that point, teams face a choice — live with the limits, ship spreadsheet workarounds around them, or build something custom. This session is a practical look at that third option in 2026. The more interesting question this year isn’t whether you build beyond native tools — it’s what building looks like now that AI has changed the economics. A custom front-end project that would have taken six months and a specialist team in 2023 looks very different in 2026. In this session we’ll show what AI-assisted front-end development actually looks like in practice, what modern custom UX for JDE can feel like, and how this reshapes the build-vs-buy calculation for JDE organizations. IT Directors, ERP Managers, and Business Analysts responsible for JDE UX decisions will come away with a clearer sense of what’s now achievable, what it costs, and how fast — without rip-and-replace, replatforming, or SaaS migration.
