Inventory is one of the most important assets in the business, yet accountability for it is often fragmented across departments, systems, and processes. Finance measures its impact. Operations moves it. Procurement replenishes it. Sales promises against it. IT supports the systems that track it. The warehouse manages the physical reality. But when inventory is inaccurate, unavailable, misplaced, overstocked, or financially misaligned, the organization often struggles to answer a simple question: who is truly accountable? This session explores the inventory accountability gap that exists inside many organizations. We will examine how ownership often breaks down between functional teams, why system visibility does not always equal operational control, and how manual processes, disconnected systems, and tribal execution create risk across the enterprise. Attendees will learn how to frame inventory as an enterprise discipline rather than a warehouse-only concern, and how to establish clearer accountability across people, process, technology, and financial outcomes. The session will provide a practical model for evaluating where inventory accountability should live, who needs to be involved, and how organizations can create a stronger operating model for accuracy, visibility, and control.
