P-053116: Beyond Spreadsheets: Transforming Preventative Maintenance in JD Edwards

AI is not simply changing how JD Edwards developers work faster. It is actually changing where developers create value. As generative AI becomes more capable of producing SQL, documentation, test scenarios, logic flows, and automation-ready outputs, the role of the developer is shifting from manually creating every artifact to defining intent, validating generated results, and governing execution. This session introduces a practical 5-Layer AI-Augmented Development Model for JD Edwards: Intent, Generation, Validation, Execution, and Governance. Rather than treating AI as a standalone productivity tool, this model frames AI as part of the broader development lifecycle, beginning from core E1 logic design to impact analysis, test design, documentation, and finally incorporating release automation. The session will explore practical scenarios rooted in real ERP development work, including AI-assisted logic design, SQL and dependency analysis, test coverage generation, documentation/runbook creation, and an intelligent release pipeline. The focus is not on replacing developers, but on elevating their role and allowing developers become reviewers of correctness, interpreters of business rules, designers of coverage, and governors of automated systems. Attendees will leave with a structured framework for thinking about AI in JD Edwards development, practical use cases they can adapt to their own teams, and a realistic view of the controls needed to use AI safely and effectively in ERP environments.
