Building a Planned Component Replacement program using JDE

When maintaining critical, large mobile equipment, such as the ones found in mining operations, one of the largest maintenance expenses is replacing and repairing components. In some cases, this can represent up to 50% of all maintenance costs. Some examples of these components are engines, transmissions, hydraulic pumps, or buckets.
Tracking the components life and effectively planning for their timely replacement becomes paramount for the successful achievement of production and performance goals for these organizations. The adequate planning of major components replacement ensures the availability of spare components and associated parts, contract labor and other resources, as well as the ability to project and track the costs of these services.

In this presentation, we will discuss how Kinross Gold Corp. is using the Maintenance module in JDE to manage these component replacements, describing the approach taken, the challenges faced, and lessons learned from this initiative.
