Fluid WorkCenters: Making Life Easier for your Payroll Department

As part of Quest Experience Week—PeopleSoft Day, Rick Delaney, part of the PeopleSoft Strategy team for Payroll for North America, spoke about Fluid WorkCenters and how they can make life easier for your payroll department.

Fluid WorkCenters are designed for specific roles, and they provide a work area that allows users to perform daily tasks without leaving the WorkCenter. These WorkCenters are accessible via smartphones, tablets, and desktops. They are set up by administrators but are personalized by the user.

The US Payroll WorkCenter is delivered as part of the Workforce Administrator Home Page. It is divided into two areas. The area on the left side of the screen is the pagelet area, which lists links to specific transactions, menu components, queries and pivot grids. The area on the right is the target content area, which is where the user will perform all of their work.

Configuring Your WorkCenter

In the target content area, also known as the WorkZone, there are links to go directly to paysheets and related actions. Users are able to personalize the pagelet area in several ways. In the WorkZone, the user is able to personalize the field display options and display sequence. Scope is a permanent filter.

The pagelet area is delivered with preconfigured group boxes and links, which give the user the ability to personalize their own links and display options. The delivered group boxes include My Work, links, queries, and reports/processes. Within My Work, there are subsections for Common Exceptions and Audit Exceptions. Provided links give quick access to key components. Users will have access to Query Manager and can add new queries as needed. Users can place pivot grids and Fluid analytics in the reports/processes section, and they will have access to run control.

Within the My Work box, links box, and reports/processes box, the system administrator has the ability to turn on or turn off the customizable option for users. The queries box defaults to Query Manager, and the system administrator is able to add queries from there. After making any changes, the system administrator must click the “Activate Settings” button within each tab to allow users to see the changes. System administrators can set up configuration IDs for WorkCenters, user access into the Scope field on the WorkCenter, the ability for users to personalize and add menu items, the order in which the group boxes appear, and the order in which the links appear within each group box. Both administrators and users will need a permission list to give them access to the WorkCenter at either an administrative level or user level.

Converting from Classic to Fluid

When converting Classic WorkCenter Work Items to Fluid Work Center Work Items, keep in mind these new five methods included in Fluid WorkCenter:

Fluid-WorkCenter-Methods

One benefit to converting to Fluid WorkCenter is the ability to reach more customers. The fact that it is accessible via smartphone, tablet, and desktop provides more options for administrators, users, and customers. Another benefit of Fluid WorkCenter is that everything the user needs is on one page.
