The Millenials are Coming

PMI dictates that the project manager should be managing scope, schedule and cost because they are interactive.  Change the scope and then the schedule or cost, or both, may change given that quality is a static standard.  If you try to reduce cost and quality at the same time then the scope or schedule will change.  How do you manage this triangular relationship interactively?  The grey beards of project management started with Excel and P6.  Recently, there has been a move to replace Excel with Unifier but scope is still generally managed in terms of its impact to budget rather than directly and interactively.  So, how is budget managed?  The advent of BIM and the Virtual Design and Construction process provides a better way to manage scope and one that is directly related to schedule and cost as well.  The grey beards had better wake up as the millennials are about to take over.

  • To inform how technologies outside of Unifier can support the use of Unifier.
  • To explain how this can be done, including lessons learned
  • To provide examples of the benefits.
