About FPG Raffles
Established in 2006, FPG Raffles manages and offers to lease worldwide for a wide range of containers including dry, tank, refrigerated and other special containers.
With the Company’s strategic ownership, experienced management and robust systems and procedures, FPG Raffles enjoys access to capital and funding from multiple cost-competitive markets to support the ongoing purchase and leasing of container equipment.
FPG Raffles’ headquarters is in Singapore with additional offices in Shanghai, London, Hamburg, Houston and Dublin including agents in the Middle East and Indonesia.
FPG Raffles went live with a new on-premise implementation of PeopleSoft FSCM in June 2013. There is a small team of personnel that supports AP, AR, GL and AM with high volume processing due to a large number of managed shipping containers.
SpearMC performed a simultaneous upgrade to PeopleTools 8.55 and Oracle Database 12.2 Upgrade with a lift and shift of PeopleSoft and in-house Galaxy Asset Management systems to Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI).
- Services Utilized
- IaaS (Infrastructure as a Service), PaaS (Database Cloud Service), Oracle Database Backup Service
- Upgrades Performed
- Oracle 12.1 to 12.2 database upgrade from Windows to Oracle Linux OS
WHAT WERE THE DRIVERS FOR YOU TO BEGIN USING PEOPLESOFT IN THE CLOUD?
- Reduced Server Operations Support
- FPG Raffles needed to free-up Server Ops personnel to concentrate on more important tasks. Utilizing OCI reduced deployment efforts and efforts related to physical hardware, networking, storage and Oracle Database maintenance.
- Disaster Recovery
- Utilizing two separate sites in conjunction with Oracle Database Backup service greatly improved the disaster recovery plan.
WHAT ENVIRONMENTS HAVE YOU DEPLOYED IN THE CLOUD (DEV, TEST, DEMO, PUM, ETC.)?
All demonstration, test and production environments were deployed in the cloud. OCI was used to completely replace the on-premise implementation of PeopleSoft and in-house applications.
WHAT WAS THE TIMELINE FOR DEPLOYING PEOPLESOFT IN THE CLOUD?
The four-month timeframe included upgrades of PeopleTools and Oracle Database.
WHAT WAS YOUR EXPERIENCE IN DEPLOYING PEOPLESOFT IN THE CLOUD? WHAT DID YOU LEARN THAT OTHER CUSTOMERS COULD BENEFIT FROM?
Time savings with server planning and preparation. The original on-premise implementation took a lot of effort in properly sizing, purchasing and appropriating new physical servers. With OCI, you fill out a few prompts with a wizard driven process and a new server is available for use. Increasing CPU, memory and storage was a very simple online process.
WHAT OBSTACLES, IF ANY, DID YOU ENCOUNTER WHILE DEPLOYING PEOPLESOFT IN THE CLOUD?
Performing the go-live tasks within the given timeframe was a challenge. Simultaneous lift and shift to OCI with PeopleTools and Oracle Database upgrades was time intensive. A temporary Oracle Enterprise database instance was deployed to take advantage of the data pump parallel processing featured to save time.
SINCE DEPLOYING PEOPLESOFT IN THE CLOUD, WHAT BENEFITS HAVE YOU SEEN FOR YOU AND YOUR COMPANY?
A more robust disaster recovery plan and reduced effort for server and Oracle database appropriation and maintenance. The environment is now more secure than before. The organization receives notifications of patching and maintenance instead of having to research what maintenance is available.
ARE YOU USING THE CLOUD TO ENABLE YOUR SELECTIVE ADOPTION ACTIVITIES – EVALUATING NEW FEATURES OR APPLYING UPDATES?
The organization is currently evaluating their Selective Adoption process in conjunction with their future application updates. The FSCM 9.2 PUM Image 26 version was deployed for evaluation.
WHAT SERVICE PARTNER DID YOU WORK WITH, IF ANY? WHAT WAS THEIR ROLE IN THE ROLLOUT?
SpearMC was the implementation partner responsible for most of the project implementation tasks.
WHERE DO YOU WANT TO TAKE YOUR COMPANY’S PEOPLESOFT STRATEGY OM THE NEXT TWO TO THREE YEARS?
Continue to take advantage of PUM maintenance and Selective Adoption.
WHAT ARE YOUR PLANS FOR THE CLOUD AS PART OF THAT STRATEGY?
A separate server will be appropriated to perform the PUM upgrades. Once upgraded, rapid provisioning of PUM images will simplify the application of maintenance and Selective Adoption.
