Hey JDE Connection listeners, Chandra and Paul here! Well, sort of. With Paul traveling through Australia and New Zealand this week, we brought back a fan favorite, Clayton Seeley, to help us get a little geeky. And by a little geeky, we mean diving into one of those JD Edwards topics that most people only think about when something isn’t working: logs.
The Features You Didn’t Know You Had
Clayton shared some of the enhancements Oracle introduced when the centralized web tier was rolled out. What stood out to us was the idea of giving users more control over their own logging without requiring administrator involvement every step of the way.
Turning Noise Into Something Useful
If you’ve ever opened a log file, you’ve probably had the same reaction we have. That’s… a lot of information. The challenge has never been collecting data. The challenge is figuring out which pieces actually matter. Clayton walked us through how Performance Workbench has evolved from a standalone utility into functionality embedded directly within Server Manager. Instead of manually sorting through pages of technical output, users can focus on identifying bottlenecks, timing issues, and patterns that deserve attention.
Better Access Creates Better Teams
A theme throughout the discussion was empowerment. Business analysts, developers, CNC administrators, and support teams all bring different perspectives when troubleshooting. The more visibility each group has into the process, the easier it becomes to work together effectively. It is a practical reminder that giving people the right information does not mean giving them unrestricted control. Sometimes a few well-placed guardrails are exactly what make exploration possible.
Midwesternism of the Day
Let’s just say there was a lively discussion involving a body of water, regional pronunciation, and strong opinions about whether certain vowels belong where people insist they do. We’ll leave it at that.
Until next time, let’s keep learning, sharing, and most importantly, laughing together.
Toodles!
