Hosted by Chandra Wobschall and Paul Houtkooper

Hello, JDE enthusiasts! It’s Chandra and Paul here, your hosts from The JDE Connection, ready to take you on another exciting journey, continuing our delightful chat with the ever-creative Linda Sloan-Compton, and let’s just say, it was a conversation that took us through some unexpected yet thoroughly entertaining turns!

Who Runs The Show?

Linda, with her unique and vivid imagination, brought to life a scenario that could only be described as “Sonic the Hedgehog meets Tron Legacy.” Just imagine the speed and agility of Sonic, blended with the futuristic, digital universe of Tron. But here’s where it gets even more interesting – envision Gumby and Pokey, those classic clay animation figures, running the show! Yes, you heard that right. In Linda’s world, Gumby and Pokey are in charge of the file system, which could use a serious defrag!

Capturing Knowledge

As we delved deeper, we touched on the challenges of keeping up with technology, the need for efficient documentation, and the importance of capturing knowledge – something Linda humorously likened to downloading her brain!

Part of our discussion revolved around the use of AI and large language models in the tech world. Linda’s candid expression of skepticism about AI’s ability to keep up with the nuances of JD Edwards highlighted a crucial point – the need for human expertise and intuition in our field.

One of the most relatable moments came when Linda talked about the struggle to train new analysts, reflecting the complexity and depth of knowledge required in our line of work. Her suggestion of needing a scribe to capture her wealth of knowledge was a moment we all connected with and chuckled at.

Importance Of Community

Linda also touched on sharing knowledge and experiences. Her involvement in various SIGs and her journey from being overwhelmed at her first Collaborate event to becoming a guiding force for many was truly inspiring. It reminded us of the importance of community for learning and support in our industry.

Fun Along The Way

And of course, who could forget the moments of lighthearted banter? From our collective nostalgia about the outdated card catalog systems to the playful jabs about needing more processing options from Paul, the conversation was as entertaining as it was informative.

So, to all our JDE enthusiasts out there, remember that while the path may sometimes feel like navigating an ever-changing landscape, it’s this very diversity and complexity that make our field so fascinating.

Until next time, let’s keep learning, sharing, and, most importantly, laughing together!
