While cloud service adoption is sky-rocketing, we all still face the challenge of squaring off this new evolution of services against the ingrained mindsets and obvious capabilities of the on-premises software world. In this session we'll examine the in's and out's, strengths and weaknesses, of extending Oracle Public Cloud services to mesh these two paradigms…

As the adoption of Oracle's PaaS offerings increase, this may leave traditional administrators of on premise components wondering how they fit into the PaaS mix.  This session will introduce the Java Cloud Service (JCS), Oracle's "WebLogic in the Cloud" PaaS offering, walk through provisioning of a JCS instance, describe where JCS may fit within your…

With structured and legacy data in Relational databases, there is need to consider a Hadoop cluster for handling data growth, and generating Analytics. One option is to buy an Engineered system, but even the most low end offerring might be beyond the budget of most IT shops. One option is to build a cluster using commodity hardware and Cloudera HDFS. This lecture talks about setting up a physical Hadoop cluster using Cloudera HDFS, Dell servers, Redhat Linux, infiniband network switches, and an Oracle DB. It will be shown that Oracle Databases and Oracle connectors work well with the commodity cluster, and will well utilize the Hadoop ecosystem of tools.

So you’ve heard about the major new features of Oracle BI 12c, including Visual Analyzer, Data Mashups, and BI Ask, but what’s it *really* like to upgrade to BI 12c?  How do you ensure that the upgrade process goes smoothly?  Sure, VA looks exciting, but what about the library of dashboards and analyses you’ve built…

Many enterprise have data in Oracle Databases, so with the avaliability of Hadoop, one can build a commodity cluster to process large amounts of data, and then use OLH (Oracle Loader for Hadoop) to load an Oracle Database 12C table with the in-memory feature. The lab focus is to first understand the Java M-R (Map-Reduce) programming paradigm which is the basis of OLH,…

Over the past seven years we've seen what is clearly a 3rd era in database management as the relational database  hegemony has given way to a diverse set of alternatives including Hadoop, Spark, HBase, Cassandra and MongoDB, augmented by technologies such as Kafka, Drill and others.   But these next generation data platforms are mutating rapidly: we're on a journey - but…

This presentation will cover Oracle’s Acceleration and the Cycles of Innovation in the world.  We’ll then look at the current Big Data Revolution and some of the solutions out there, as well as Oracle’s Big Data Solution.  We will review the role that both Google and Facebook have played in the Big Data Ecosystem and…

Oracle Redaction and Transparent Data Encryption are the most advanced features available in Oracle12c to guarantee optimal database security and data protection, by utilizing a combination of encryption standards and data retrieval methods and policies beyond SQL execution, which enable specialized administrators to fully condition access to private information, using encryption, row-level with either role-driven or…

With each new release of Oracle, the optimizer undergoes changes usually for the better, but sometimes there are unexpected side effects as well. This presentation will explore all of the new optimizer features, adaptive plans/statistics, and the changes to SQL plan management. Several case studies will show how it works, so you can quickly take…

This presentation will look at which 12c new features should be investigated for use.  Most of the features that will be covered will be related to the DBA, but there will also be a few outside that realm that focus on the developer.  There will be simple examples (such as a quick example using pluggable…
