Public Sector Sessions at RECONNECT Live!
Presented by:
Col. Robert J. Mikesh Jr., US Army
Abstract:
The United States Army’s Integrated Personnel and Pay System (IPPS-A) is responsible for the human capital management for 1.3 million soldiers. In this session you will learn about the largest PeopleSoft deployment in history. Colonel Mikesh will discuss the challenges and successes along their journey, including how the Army was able to leverage agile to incrementally deploy PeopleSoft to such a large and global user base. One of the hallmark features of IPPS-A is the Army’s custom 25-point profile that is powered by PeopleSoft Profile Management and provides the Army valuable insights into the talent and skills of each soldier.
Presented by:
Sarah Tongier, State of Kansas
Abstract:
The State of Kansas used to experience major performance issues when issuing large volumes of payments through PeopleSoft Accounts Payable. Recurring payments to retirees, individual and corporate tax refunds and unemployment payments frequently caused significant system processing delays. This often resulted in staff overtime to complete payment processing and system downtime impacting end users. Learn how Kansas solved the problem while still issuing timely payments to large groups and posting the appropriate accounting entries to the general ledger.

Peter Smith, Salt River Pima Maricopa Indian Community
Abstract:
How our organization leveraged configuration tools and bolt-on development to enhance the Company Directory and Org Chart features without customizing delivered objects. This enabled us to replace an unsupported third-party application and its interface to PeopleSoft HCM.

Hear how the City of Seattle transformed our training approach by migrating from UPK to Oracle Guided Learning (OGL). OGL is an in-application, guided learning and processing tool that walks users through processes in PeopleSoft. This session will provide an overview of the OGL tool, how it is used in PeopleSoft and how the City of Seattle implemented it in order to facilitate more efficient learning of the system. We will also discuss lessons learned from the initial implementation and plans to use it to support the adoption of fluid.

Rahul Nori, State of Minnesota
Abstract:
Are you hosted On-Premise with PeopleSoft and understand that a move to the Oracle Could Infrastructure (OCI) for PeopleSoft systems is on the horizon? While you wait for that, do you plan to do an upgrade to a new PeopleTools version or get current to an application PUM version in order to future proof some your environments? If your answer is yes to these questions, this session is for you! This is a session with lessons learned from our objective to get State of Minnesota aligned with Oracle’s product roadmap and lifecycle management strategy. A discussion of the challenges we face currently, the opportunities for improvement, current practices/ideas around staying current until we make the leap to OCI. In addition, let us also look through some strategies and newly delivered features to ensure that fewer customizations can be made to delivered objects, which means that there is less code retrofit effort now and during future upgrades, hence making the application easily maintainable, like Drop-Zones, Event Mapping, Page and Field Configurator (PFC). We will also briefly discuss some implementation strategies for features like PeopleSoft Fluid UI, Classic Plus styling, Accessibility, Managing Bolt-On Enhancements, etc. This will be a discussion to understand the current, so that we can better plan the future.
Presented by:
Ben Amster, City of Seattle, Washington
Abstract:
The City of Seattle has hundreds of revenue streams with unique spending restrictions, from special-purposes taxes to bonds to grants. Ensuring appropriate tracking and usage of various “colors of money” is a challenge for the City’s accounting staff. In 2018, the City deployed a new project-centric chart of accounts and began using PeopleSoft Project Costing and Funds Distribution to make it easier to assign expenses to various funding sources without forcing complex color-of-money tracking onto non-accounting staff. This session will explore lessons learned from the City’s extensive use of PeopleSoft Project Costing and Funds Distribution to support complicated expense tracking requirements.
