• Requirements Planning (MRP): MRP is only as accurate as the data fed into it. When set up correctly, it becomes one of the most valuable tools for production and purchasing, driving supply and demand balance. Time Series inquiry offers a real-time view of material needs and supply dates. 
• Capacity Planning: Accurate routings feed capacity planning, helping manufacturers prevent bottlenecks by aligning labor and machine resources with production demand. 
• Quality Management: While not the most advanced system, JDE’s quality module provides reliable tools for ensuring compliance, inspections, and certifications — vital for industries requiring traceability.

From his 26 years of consulting experience, Gaultney emphasized several best practices for companies implementing or optimizing JDE Manufacturing: 

• Maintain inventory accuracy at 98% or higher, supported by robust cycle counting.
• Use time series for a more accurate supply and demand view than static MRP results.
• Validate work center setups carefully, ensuring labor and machine constraints are reflected correctly for capacity planning. 
• Simplify costing by standardizing how overhead and labor rates are applied across work centers. 
• Leverage configurators and phantoms carefully for customization, balancing flexibility with lead time reduction.
