Hey JDE Connection listeners, Chandra and Paul here! INFOCUS is right around the corner, which means it is time to start looking at the agenda, figuring out where we want to be, and accepting the fact that there will inevitably be three sessions we want to attend at exactly the same time.

In this episode, we took a spin through the INFOCUS agenda and called out some of the sessions that caught our attention. And yes, Chandra may have gotten a little carried away highlighting sessions. With hundreds to choose from, narrowing the list was apparently harder than anticipated.

AI Is Everywhere, But There’s Plenty More to Talk About

We didn’t make it very far into the agenda before AI entered the conversation. Shocking, we know.

There are sessions exploring AI from just about every angle, including development, sales order automation, financials, dashboards, administration, and plenty of hands-on opportunities. There is even a newly launched AI SIG, giving the community another place to compare notes and learn from one another.

We loved seeing that on the agenda. AI is creating some fascinating possibilities, but there are still plenty of opportunities to improve processes, automate work, and make life easier using tools organizations may already have. Sometimes the next good idea doesn’t require the newest shiny object.

The Best Ideas Usually Come With a Story

One of our favorite things about INFOCUS is hearing what other JDE customers are actually doing.

This year’s agenda has plenty of those stories. We spotted customers talking about saving significant amounts of time with Orchestrations, improving purchase order approvals, tackling wireless scanner challenges, rolling out standards across a large global organization, and even moving to OCI after decades on IBM i.

Those are the sessions that tend to get us thinking.

We may not have the exact same business problem, industry, or technology landscape, but hearing how someone else approached a challenge can spark an idea we can take home. Sometimes the most useful thing we bring back from a conference is one little nugget from a session that wasn’t an obvious choice when we first looked at the agenda.

Make Room for the Conversations

Of course, INFOCUS isn’t only about filling every available hour with sessions.

There are SIG meetings, workshops, networking opportunities, the exhibitor showcase, receptions, and plenty of chances to talk with people who understand the strange little corner of the technology world we all share. We have said it before, but some of the best conference conversations happen because we sit next to someone, ask a question after a session, or discover that another company has already wrestled with the exact problem keeping us busy back home.

So yes, build your agenda. Just leave a little breathing room for the unexpected conversations too.

This week’s Midwesternism came to us courtesy of a marathon that didn’t exactly go according to plan. Think delayed starts, mountain roads, unexpected conditions, tired feet, and one of those days that gives you a very good reason to reach for a wonderfully expressive bit of Midwestern vocabulary. We’ll leave the actual word for the episode.
