Hosted by Chandra Wobschall and Paul Houtkooper

Welcome back to The JDE Connection, where we dive deep into the world of JD Edwards with insights, humor, and invaluable advice. It’s your hosts, Chandra Wobschall and Paul Houtkooper. Today, we continue our chat with Andrew Ostdiek, a seasoned expert in navigating the JD Edwards landscape, whose insights not only shed light on tackling JD Edwards’ challenges but also underscore the importance of patience, precision, and a bit of humor in the face of technical troubleshooting.

Andrew kicked off our discussion with a powerful statement: solving JD Edwards issues is an art form. He emphasized the importance of not fearing failure when entering a ticket or searching for solutions. His advice to junior BAs and anyone involved in JD Edwards support was clear: take the time to document your issue comprehensively. Breaking down your problem into what you’re experiencing and what you expect is a simple yet effective strategy that Andrew swears by for achieving success in SR resolution.

He shared the necessity of adjusting your language to match Oracle’s terminology when searching platforms like My Oracle Support and LearnJDE. This can help ensure clarity and prevent misunderstandings. The art of effectively traversing these resources, according to Andrew, lies in the details—providing object names, application versions, and clear descriptions of the issues.

Our conversation took an amusing turn as Andrew recounted working on support tickets while managing daily disruptions, humorously noting even incidents involving dog vomit! This led to a candid exchange about the difficulties of multitasking and the value of patience and meticulous notetaking to keep track of ongoing issues.

Andrew’s blend of tech savviness, strategic thinking, and humor provided a refreshing perspective on how to negotiate JD Edwards systems support.

We could not wrap up an episode without sharing our Midwesternism of the day, this time touching on our thoughts and experiences growing up. We hope this episode provides you with some ideas you can implement in your day-to-day for navigating My Oracle Support and improving your outcomes when requesting assistance.

Until next time, keep learning, sharing, and laughing together!
