Fixed Assets Depreciation in JDE changing methods without customization
Presented by:
Craig Hill, Co-Founder and EVP, Solution Delivery at C&A Technology LLC

Although the JD Edwards Fixed Assets system provides a wide range of standard depreciation methods, there might be a need for specific depreciation algorithms other than those provided with the standard depreciation methods. For example, to help small businesses, owners can claim their first-year bonus depreciation in qualifying personal property used for business purposes. Using bonus depreciation, they can deduct a certain percentage of the cost of an asset in the first year it was purchased, and the remaining cost can be deducted over several years using regular depreciation.

Presented by:
Chantelle Cory, CNC at LSB Industries, Inc.

Are you the “last line of defense” in your E1 system? As a CNC, we are used to tackling technical, database, and performance issues. But we are often 2nd or 3rd level support for issues in E1. Sometimes, our technical perspective does not solve the problem. We have to build skills to look at the applications themselves. Energizing A/P Operations with Miller Electric Company
Presented by:
Rochelle Price, VP of Shared Services at Miller Electric Company, Inc.

Join this session to learn how Miller Electric Company energized their A/P operations. With the investment of capital and time into JDE over the last 15 years it made sense to leverage an A/P Automation tool embedded in E1. Having a single system translates into incredible time and cost savings during training, user adoption, use and maintenance. With A/P Automation within E1 the job costing is now done at the front of the transaction. In the business this means the AP dept. is less dependent on Project Managers to get costs into the system ASAP. PM’s are now simply approving the payment, not the costs. The speed at which this happens is second to none. Miller has minimized keying errors, delivered seamless efficiency and increased compliancy as auditors can evaluate any step in the process.

Is Covid Data slowing you down? A cure tailored for your tracking needs!
Presented by:
Danielle Matherne, Business System Analyst at Turner Industries Group

In an effort to be compliant with OSHA Covid requirements we elected to utilize Supplemental Data that allows flexibility in record design with validation to the Employee Master. Standardly the Supplemental Data application is connected to many of the existing applications throughout the HCM Module.

Our industry has a large volume of employees that process through the stages of employment very frequently. This resulted in multiple ways of collecting this information from different HCM Departments within our company. Since the data is needed across the company for real-time reporting a way to quickly create records in Supplemental Data was identified to be needed instead of entering one record at a time.

Tredegar’s success story going to OCI Cloud & a Orchestration based scanning solution
Presented by:
Dave Sexton at ERP Suites
Joe Hebner at Tredegar Film Products

Tredegar was in the difficult position of being spun off within a short window and a hard deadline. They needed to bring JD Edwards into Oracle’s cloud while reducing their costs associated with third-party products. They found a solution that leveraged Oracle’s Orchestration technology that saved them significant costs from their traditional Scanning vendor. Leveraging a strong team and partnership, Tredegar was able to convert 18 scripts to Orchestrations running on hand-held scanners with little impact on their end-user material handlers. Tredegar successfully hit all their dates and financial objectives from the divestiture with no impact on their customers or employees!

Think Logically – How to Keep WebLogic Securely Patched for EnterpriseOne
Presented by:
Alex Rodriguez, Technical Services Manager at SmarterCommerce

This session is based on an experience with a customer that used third party scanning tools to detect that several key WebLogic patches were not in place. Specifically the version they currently had installed was no longer supported by Oracle. This lack of support indicates that Oracle is not obligated to release new security patches. As a result, it is likely to contain security vulnerabilities that could be exploited by malicious agents. The process to upgrade to the latest version of WebLogic will be discussed and clear documentation will be provided to help customers with this complex process. We will discuss making sure customers are on the latest version 12.2.1.3. This upgrade process is not well documented and includes information that may lack clarity. Attend to learn best practices and see a step by step explanation to avoid common pitfalls.

– WebLogic may need to be upgraded to 12.2.1.4.0 or 14.1.1.0
– All Java programs must be upgraded to a 64-bit version

New for EnterpriseOne: Contractor Services Module Solves 3-Way Match Headache for Services Receipts
Presented by:
Barry Richings, Asset Management Solutions
Scott Hollowell, Asset Management Solutions

A common challenge for companies trying to manage their Procure-to-Pay business process is encountered when trying to implement the segregation of duties & other controls mandated for Sarbanes-Oxley and Audit compliance. Whereas materials & parts procurement have JDE applications that easily support the 3-way match of Purchase Order – Receipt – Payment Voucher, companies procuring Services from Contractors are frequently faced with the dilemma of how to perform a Receipt of Services? All too often, companies arrive at a hodge-podge of process and JDE usage, ranging from flip-flopping the quantity and extended price fields on the PO, forwarding invoices via mail to the original requestor of services procurement for a “manual approval to pay,” and external software systems managing “A/P approvers.”
With the new Contractor Services Module for EnterpriseOne, managing Contractor Services procurement has never been easier. In this Session you will see how this EnterpriseOne native module allows your company to overcome the challenges that plague your Procurement, Operations, and Accounts Payables groups.
Objectives:
•Need to create a $1M “Standing” Purchase Order to a Contractor for providing services over the next year, but ensure the PO# referenced on the Vendor Invoices remains consistent throughout the duration of the drawdown of available funds?…no problem.
•Planning Contractor Services on a Work Order, or having a Contractor submit Time/Expense/Rental Equipment against WO’s that were simply delegated to them?…no problem.
•Positive Receipt of Services inside JDE which enables Voucher Matching up to the amount of the received Services?…again, no problem.

Trash the paper! Streamline the process of approving and loading faculty overloads into Peoplesoft
Presented by:
Lisa Lowery, Kentucky Community & Technical College System

.With an ever growing telework presence across a large geographic area, The Kentucky Community and Technical College System recognized the need to streamline the paper process utilized to approve faculty overloads and submit them to payroll for payment. In a joint effort the Technology Solutions, Human Resources and Payroll departments worked cooperatively to develop a robust electronic form within the existing ERP system PeopleSoft. The new electronic form allows for a restricted group of end users to submit request electronically and then the request flows through a series of required and custom electronic approvers. The form has intelligence built in to help prevent errors and allows for payroll to upload payments directly into the payroll system. The new electronic form has decreased time required for approval and data processing, it has increased accuracy and improved reporting capabilities.

US Senate Reduced Pay Processing by 75% Using PeopleSoft SMART HR Functionality
Presented by:
Peter Nemeth, Senior PeopleSoft Lead at MIPRO Consulting

Background – The United States Senate is comprised of multiple organizations. Not only are there Senator offices, but also committee and other administrative entities to support the functions of the Senate. The Bart/MIPRO team first worked with the Senate Disbursing (Payroll) group to go live on Oracle PeopleSoft HCM and North American Payroll. Years later, our team helped expand HCM/HRIS functionality to the Senate Sergeant at Arms (SAA) HR organization to include SMART HR processing, Position Management, Workcenters, Leave and Person Profile modules. Bart/MIPRO designed specific SMART HR functionality to allow SAA HR to electronically submit Department, Jobcode, and Pay Changes to Disbursing, which owns Job Data at the US Senate. Senate rules, policy, and procedures make processing large numbers of pay-related transactions very time consuming. Bart/MIPRO Solution – To reduce SAA HR’s semi-monthly and semi-annual burdens of creating and submitting large numbers of pay-related transactions (corrections, retros, merits, bonuses), Bart/MIPRO designed and constructed a custom Rapid Pay solution using advanced PeopleTool App Designer techniques. This unique design incorporates existing SMART HR functionality and a new front end to provide for spreadsheet upload and rapid pay transaction entry. Users now can key in pay specific transactions either to spreadsheet or to online page without having to do directly into their custom HRIS Job Information page that requires additional non-pay data entry and edits. This new bulk-processing solution has reduced SAA HR Pay transaction system processing by an estimated 50-75%. The solution uses App Package, App Engine, Component Interface, BI Publisher, Approvals, Worklists to bolster the existing HRIS design without discounting the Senate’s previous HRIS investment.

The Kentucky Community and Technical College System (KCTCS) recently transitioned to a Payroll Shared Services (PSS) environment by taking advantage of key functionality within Payroll for North America in PeopleSoft HCM 9.2. The PSS staff provides all payroll administration in one central unit for 16 different Community and Technical colleges across the state of Kentucky. Work and leave time is collected and administrated electronically through PeopleSoft Time and Labor, which helps to ensure critical compliance with both regulatory agencies and policy and procedures. Taxes are managed centrally by utilizing tax location codes within the job data screen. PeopleSoft Fluid Employee Self Service is configured to allow employees a dashboard view of key payroll, leave, tax, and direct deposit information. Several PeopleSoft audits have been put in place to ensure accuracy of data and allows for the central payroll staff to focus on critical exceptions. Additional efficiencies have been gained by developing electronic forms and processes for overloads and additional payments. How Hays Upgraded to PeopleTools 8.59 and created an automated framework for future Tools releases.
Presented by:
Mark Thomas, UK IT Director at Hays Specialist Recruitment Ltd

Upgrades to major new releases of PeopleTools have typically been challenging projects for Hays Specialist Recruitment. The upgrades have a lot of manual steps, take time to apply non-vanilla customisations and configuration files and involve a lot of manual IT and end user testing and of course involve change freezes which limit the team’s ability to deliver value add solutions. This presentation will showcase how Hays used a PeopleTools 8.59 upgrade to drive: ? automation of the deployment steps, ? revert to vanilla configuration, ? deliver new end user value through tools such as such as an enhanced user interface, improvements to activity guides and analytics. ? use of PeopleTools Test Framework to automate elements of the testing burden. The project has resulted in Hays being able to take a different approach to spot releases of PeopleTools and deploy these rapidly as part of the monthly technical release cycle.

Work From Home… How to Solve the Tax Compliance Nightmare
Presented by:
Barbra Branyan, Director of Implementation Services at PS WebSolution, Inc.
Tyger Vollrath, Founder & PeopleSoft Evangelist at PS WebSolution, Inc.

In the past 10 years, working from home has become more and more common. When employees only worked in a few specific locations, it was easy to setup those locations in PeopleSoft with its core features (including its tax requirements) and maintain that location for all the employee’s that worked there. But in the new remote working world (especially with COVID), employees are now working most of their hours from home, which may be in other states and with new tax localities. State tax revenue offices have become more aware of this trend and have been more aggressive about getting those employees or employers to pony up any work location taxes in addition to any resident taxes the employee should be paying. But this can be a maintenance and compliance nightmare for a payroll and tax department. Especially for states like Ohio & Pennsylvania, which have work tax codes in the thousands. Ensuring that the correct codes are assigned to an employee’s work and resident location(s) is challenging.

IBM has been an Oracle partner for more than 30 years and a prominent managed services provider for over 20 years. These decades of experience have generated market-leading processes, knowledge and unparalleled insight into the design, build and deployment of cloud solutions. We’re committed to creating world-class solutions for organizations looking to upgrade their infrastructure with Oracle Cloud Solutions. “Combining expert professional services from IBM and Oracle helps our joint clients improve performance and security, while significantly reducing costs to run their enterprise applications. PeopleSoft Power Tools to Boost ROI: Chatbots, eForms, and RPA
Presented by:
Scott Antin, Gideon Taylor Consulting

Chatbots, eForms, RPA. There is no better return on investment in enterprise software than automation. Not cloud, not SaaS, not upgrades. The single biggest cost to enterprise software is the people needed to run it. Automation at all levels will drive efficiency and save your organization money.
Automation can be applied to various pillars, but the three most common are (1) automating work your backend users perform, (2) automating work your self-service users are asked to do, and (3) automating the work to support all of your users. For PeopleSoft customers, all three of these automation opportunities are available today! Join us for a crash course on the tenets of automation ROI and see how you can maximize the value, productivity, and performance of your PeopleSoft system. We’ll show you how you can automate user tasks and support with world-class digital assistants; automate business processes with Fluid eForms; and automate heavy backend work in PeopleSoft with RPA technology.
Eliminate clicks, simplify processes, increase visibility, and accelerate transactions. You will spend far less than on a new SaaS and have much greater returns. If you’re looking for more productivity, more efficiency, and more value, we will show you how to unlock that today from your HCM / FSCM / Campus Solutions systems.

EPM Cloud: Automating data interfaces
Presented by:
Basheer Khan, CEO at Knex Technology

Oracle Fusion Cloud Enterprise Performance Management (EPM) helps you model and plan across finance, HR, supply chain, and sales, streamline the financial close process, and drive better decisions. A number of pre-built integrations are available to import data from Oracle Cloud Applications. However, import data from non-Oracle systems is typically achieved by uploading files using the EPM Automate utility. The approach is rather cumbersome, requiring some technical skills to invoke this utility from a command prompt or a terminal window. In this presentation, Oracle ACE Director Basheer Khan, will demonstrate a unique solution that enables business users to import data from non-Oracle accounting systems as well as third-party payroll providers.

Engage and Empower Your Hourly Deskless Workforce With Oracle Cloud HCM
Presented by:
Sherri Bartels, HCM Product Strategy, at Oracle America, Inc

Fostering a better employee experience has taken center stage as a key focus for HR. How you address this for salaried knowledge workers differs from how you do so for hourly deskless workers. Hourly deskless workers’ work happens on the hospital floor, in the storefront, on the production line, at the construction site, in the warehouse, or inside a truck. Their connection to “the back-office” is often through their mobile device(s). They are time bound with a focus on meeting demand with on time and on budget delivery and with high quality. Their expectations of their employer to meet their needs differs greatly because of this as well as socio-economic factors. Sherri Bartels, Product Strategy Director for Oracle Cloud HCM will share 5 key capabilities you can deploy now in Oracle Cloud HCM to engage and empower your hourly workforce and to be seen as an employer of choice to retain the talent you have and attract more during this time of unprecedented labor shortage.

How To Find The “Top Anything” Using Raw ASH Data
Presented by:
Craig Shallahamer, DBA/President/Founder/DBA at OraPub, Inc.

Have you ever been asked a “top anything” question? Questions like, “Hey Craig, what is the top [insert stat here]…?” For instance, the DB Time SQL by hour, top hour with the most active session, top CPU consuming execution plan, top module for this SQL_ID, top SQL_ID when waiting on db file sequential reads, top IO activity day of the week, top hard parse hour, top hard parse day last June, top hard parse force matching signature, and the top row lock hour regardless of the date or the day. This list goes on and on. The SQL I’ll use to demonstrate how to answer all these questions is simple and only eight short lines. It aggressively uses ASH’s sample nature, SQL*Plus defines and your understanding of how Oracle works. The result is we can do deep analysis we normally would not think is possible…even with ASH. Truly, it’s the most important SQL statement I have ever written. Join me as we explore how to creatively and aggressively use raw ASH data to answer traditionally difficult but incredibly important Oracle and application performance questions.

Implementing Business Rules Code with a PL/SQL Table API
Presented by:
Peter Koletzke, Technical Director and Principle Instructor at CompuServe

Business rules define the requirements that data needs to satisfy so that it is fully valid for the business. A PL/SQL Table API provides a centralized location for the code you write to represent those business rules. Regardless of your development environment — APEX, ADF, MAF, JET, MAX, VB/VB Studio, Java, JavaScript, or any other framework — using a Table API to implement business rules validations has many benefits including better performance, reduced cloud database costs, simplification of user interface code, and more secure applications.

This session explains the benefits of this kind of centralized code in more detail and gives advice about how to incorporate it into your development practices. It then focuses on the code components and strategies relevant to using a PL/SQL Table API. In addition, the session discusses several methods for calling Table API code. The presentation also describes and demonstrates methods for automatically generating a large part of the code and shows examples of generated code as well as code that calls the Table API.

Through the Looking-Glass: Database Views
Presented by:
Michael Rosenblum, Software architect/Senior DBA at Dulcian Inc

Too many of us have been taught that views are nothing more than stored SQL statements. The main goal of my presentation is to challenge this notion. Or, to be precise, to take you one step further – from technicalities to the huge role that well-designed views can play in the contemporary database solution.

Current views are very advanced. They can be built on the top of user-defined functions, they can have extremely complex INSTEAD-OF triggers (including composite ones), they can even have indexes! As a result, with all of this added functionality views can serve as a isolation level between UI-driven data representation (i.e. heavily denormalized and customized) and DBA-driven data representation (i.e. normalized with referential integrity constraints and foreign keys).

Contemporary IT solutions often take that transformation completely out of the database (usually in the middle-tier), but this presentation will show that keeping business logic IN the database provides you much higher level of flexibility, manageability and performance. Of course, there are some traps and pitfalls – but they are also avoidable. Real-life examples are provided to show that the role of views is seriously underestimated.

Modernize your Oracle Database to 19c and IBM Power10
Presented by:
Wayne Martin, IBM

The objective of this presentation is to provide guidance to IBM® and Oracle customers on upgrading from Oracle Database 11gR2 to Oracle Database 19c and IBM Power8® to IBM Power10. For reasons of long-term support, cost of maintenance, security, and overall efficiency, it is important that customers proceed in planning their move to the most current long-term support version of the Oracle Database and IBM server.
To prepare this presentation the test team selected two workloads that are representative of the variety of workloads that customers may use. Initially each workload was run using 11gR2 on a Power8 processor-based server. Both the Oracle database and the Power8 processor-based server were configured as per best practices, including the application of current service to IBM AIX® and Oracle Database. The server was then upgraded to a Power10 and the Database to 19c.
In this session we will share the methods used, and experience gained, which are also relevant to those using JD Edwards, PeopleSoft, E-Business Suite, SAP, and other applications that leverage the Oracle DB.
