Oracle Advanced Analytics 12.2c delivers significant performance gains and features. OAA’s in-database algorithms can now build predictive models on billions of records in minutes, “score” millions of records in seconds and support real-time model deployment. New features include an unsupervised feature selection algorithm, partitioned models and Oracle Data Miner GUI enhancements.  R integration enables users…

The session will Introduce key new features that will be available with "Oracle Real Application Clusters 12c Release 2" Introduce best practices for deployment, Management, Availability and Performance tuning Cover internals of the key features so DBA's can understand how the feature will help with their day-to-day activities Presenter: Anil Nair, Principal Product Manager, Oracle Corporation

This presentation will look at which 12c new features should be investigated for use.  Most of the features that will be covered will be related to the DBA, but there will also be a few outside that realm that focus on the developer.  There will be simple examples (such as a quick example using pluggable…

Linux Container (not to be confused with Oracle 12c Container database) like Docker and LxC is the next-generation virtualization technology. Imagine having all the benefits of a hypervisor-based virtual machine, but with no performance overhead. Its this combination that makes containers ideal for databases, especially when running on bare metal. While the adoption of containers…

Docker greatly simplifies the way in which applications and their dependencies are packaged and distributed. While modern, microservices-based applications have greatly benefitted with the use of docker, this technology can be applied to traditional, Oracle-based applications as well. Typically, to create a new WebLogic environment, one would download the installation packages, install weblogic, create the domain and…

We'll meet informally to discuss the state of Oracle Database 12c and upcomming R2  quickly review some of its more beneficial features, and identify what topics our SIG should focus on in the coming months as 12c ramps up as a formidable player in the Oracle universe.

Oracle Sharding is an elastic database architecture where data is horizontally partitioned across multiple discrete databases that share no hardware or software. It provides linear scalability and complete fault isolation for transaction processing applications designed for a sharded architecture—attributes that are not possible by scaling-out or scaling-up a single database. Join this session to hear…

In 2008, Harald van Breederode and Joel Goodman wrote a white paper titled "Performing an Oracle DBA 1.0 to Oracle DBA 2.0 Upgrade" in which they suggested DBAs needed to add storage and OS skills to remain relevant in a shifting technical landscape. The role of today's DBA has broadened considerably and with that comes…

Oracle 12c In-Memory option is an industry innovation by introducing dual format architecture which allows database objects to be stored in columnar format.  This brings significant performance improvement of SQL in both OLAP and mixed workload environments.  Key In-Memory terminologies such as dual-format SGA architecture, In-Memory components 1MB pool and 64KB pool and their functionalities will be introduced.  Actual case study from Walgreens will be presented with dramatic performance improvement on analytical SQLs. Testing results have been measured with various criteria to demonstrate the effects of In-Memory option. Major In-Memory operations and their benefit will be described in the SQL execution plans. Learned lessons and the observed advantages and disadvantages from the In-Memory option will be summarized at the end.

Are you interested in using Oracle RAC in “a cloud”? Do you want to operate your Oracle RAC stack in a virtualized environment, but you are unsure about support and certification? If the answer to either question is “yes”, you have found the right session. Based on a brief review of general support and certification…
