In January 2024, Toll embarked on a journey to upgrade its E1 environment from Release 21 to Release 24. What began as a 6 month Tools release has evolved into a large scale project replacing all 119 E1 servers. We will cover the twists and turns of the project, such as changing of project managers mid-stream, discovery of previously unknown integrations, juggling multiple vendors and few other surprises. The goal of this session is to share the lessons we learned from our roller coaster ride to help make your upgrade as smooth as possible.

Printpack, an Atlanta-based manufacturer of flexible and rigid packaging, faced challenges in effectively communicating production data from its contract manufacturers. This study presents the implementation of technology and integration solutions to streamline the contract manufacturing process.
Methodology included the development of an internet portal, file integration systems, and the implementation of barcode labeling. Results show significant improvements in visibility and traceability of the manufacturing process, with an increase in data accuracy and a reduction in processing time. This study demonstrates how targeted technological solutions can overcome communication challenges in contract manufacturing, leading to improved efficiency and accuracy in the packaging industry.
The research addressed three main objectives:
Objective 1: Provide flexible data communication options for vendors
Objective 2: Improve material packaging and labeling for enhanced inventory management
Objective 3: Increase production data accuracy for improved payment validation

This presentation highlights the strategic approach and execution of a comprehensive upgrade that simultaneously tackled the PeopleSoft Tools version, the PeopleSoft Update Manager (PUM) version, and the transition to Fluid. The initiative aimed to modernize the system's functionality, improve user experience, and optimize performance while minimizing disruption to daily operations.
The project required meticulous planning, rigorous testing, and robust communication strategies to ensure a smooth transition. Key components of the upgrade process included:
• Extensive Testing: A thorough testing framework was implemented to identify and address potential issues, ensure system stability, and validate the functionality of integrated processes.
• Strategic Planning: The team devised a detailed project plan to manage interdependencies between the Tools, PUM, and Fluid upgrades, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
• Effective Communication: A comprehensive communication plan engaged the user community, providing regular updates, training resources, and opportunities for feedback to foster understanding and adoption.
Attendees will gain insights into the challenges, best practices, and lessons learned from this complex upgrade process, as well as actionable strategies for managing similar projects. By aligning technology enhancements with user needs and operational priorities, this upgrade set the foundation for a more efficient and user-friendly system.
