The interesting thing about a graph is that we can use it with almost every application. We can view most data sets as a graph, and that gives you the ability to see your data through the connections and relationships between data entities. Once you represent your data as a graph, you can apply graph algorithms to get new insights into your data. In this session, I will discuss how you can create a graph from relational tables in Oracle Autonomous Database, apply graph algorithms to this graph, and use the results in your applications. My goal is to demystify graph analytics and help you get started using graphs in your analytics applications.

At Oracle OpenWorld 2019, Oracle announced an Always Free Tier of cloud services. This session will review what’s available with these free cloud services such as Oracle autonomous databases including Autonomous Data Warehouse (ADW) and Autonomous Transaction Processing (ATP), compute with up to 2 virtual machines, storage including block, object, and archive storage. We’ll explore how these free services work and what can be done with them, such as creating proof of concept systems. Looking for data? No problem! We’ll explore the vast number of free data sources that are available and can be consumed using Application Programming Interfaces (APIs). Once we combine the two, we can easily pull data into these cloud services while creating fully functioning applications including the use of Oracle Application Express (APEX).

In this era, data privacy and security is a major concern. It is a challenge to be compliant with the standards as far as data security is concerned. Oracle Advanced Security options provide us easy ways to protect our databases and be compliant at the same time. This session will give an overview and use cases of several impactful Oracle Advanced Security features we have been using for our SaaS applications in real life production systems. In addition to that, there are several other in-house best practice we have developed over the years which might be beneficial for others.

Tired of continuously adjusting your performance monitoring and alerting rules? How about using machine learning to create the rules instead! Sure, we can train a supervised ML model to recognize patterns of poor performance. But what if your IT department is not ready to embrace it?

A novel solution is to train a supervised machine learning model to recognize patterns of poor performance, but then extract the rules in plain English and then manually enter them into your existing monitoring and alerting platform. Is this possible? Yes, it is! And, I will demonstrate how you can do this.

To ensure you can easily do everything I do, I will use industry-standard Python ML libraries, the industry-standard Jupyter notebook, AWR, and support ticket data. You can experiment with the demonstration materials “as is” and then use them to push your ML and rule creation knowledge deeper.

What’s the next role for the DevOps or DBA as the autonomous database and Oracle enhancements free up time? This session will cover the role (managing more databases with autonomous database) & the integration of AI and Machine Learning. Technology is advancing at an exponential rate. This session will show what this means to your company and your future job. See major advances being driven, but also those that will be driven by the autonomous future Oracle is driving ahead.

Introducing Oracle Zero Downtime Migration (ZDM), Oracle's premier automated tool for moving your database from on-premises to the Oracle Cloud. ZDM is an automated tool that leverages the best of high availability and scalability solutions at Oracle  thus moving your Oracle Database to the Oracle Cloud with no downtime. In this session, we will cover in-depth the full range of features and functionality of Oracle Zero Downtime Migration, how it was designed and built, and how it can be leveraged for all your migration needs. We will finish by discussing the roadmap for ZDM and all things Oracle Database Cloud Migration.

In today’s world, the ability to quickly create value from different types of data increasingly provides businesses with a competitive edge. But as companies develop more apps, analytics, and ML to digitize their processes and decision points, they’re faced with a difficult choice: to either optimize for fast application development now or easier value creation from data later. In other words, developer productivity or data productivity. In this session, Maria Colgan will explain how Oracle gives developers the right tools for each job to make them more productive, and IT a unified data tier that makes the reuse of data and overall management simpler and easier.

As part of Quest Experience Week 2019, Richard Evans, Database Security Product Management at Oracle, spoke about the top 10 database security features you might not be using.
