Using Oracle Machine Learning: I'll show how to produce results quickly. The first step is Algorithmic Business Thinking to see where the biggest impact will be for the business. Next: applying the correct algorithm and understanding different settings will be important. Then: training the model with either data that you have or data via Big Data opportunities will be key to teach a model. After all of that: you can then test your model against data that you understand well already to see if this is the best model or if a different algorithm might be better. Lastly: testing the model on NEW data that starts to prescribe what to do in the future. Understanding which customers or potential customers are likely to buy. Finding anomalies quicker to address as needed. Knowing which product is the NEXT product a customer will buy. Finding the attributes of great customers that you have within new customers that are opportunities & you'll know what they want to buy first or second. This is an intermediate look at the practical application of Machine Learning.

AI is the most talked-about subject among business leaders today, getting top billing at places like the World Economic Forum in Davos. There is a general feeling that AI advances in the last two years are important, perhaps even groundbreaking, but most firms struggle with the relevance of AI to their own businesses. AI seems like a far away dream, not a practical technology that companies large and small can exploit today.

History has taught us that waiting for the “right moment” to jump onto a technology platform is a fool’s errand at best. Alternatively, the smart money seeks to understand the technology and the various ways to experiment with its use, in low-risk fashion, along the company’s value chain.

We have been applying AI for 25 years, long before it was cool. We’ve made many, many mistakes. We’ve discovered some surprising truths. Along the way we’ve learned a great deal about AI and its practical applications that almost any business can embrace. Yes, AI is powerful, and applied thoughtfully it can propel many businesses to a level of efficiency and value creation that is unmatched by its AI-challenged competitors. But just like any powerful force, it must be managed carefully.

In our talk we will be reaching out to practically-oriented business leaders and technologists who are intrigued by the headlines, but are at a loss as to how (and where, and how much) to start with AI. We will offer a few methodical and systematic steps to get to a smarter, 2.0 version of the company that you are today.

Our world is full of good methodologies, good technologies and great ideas. And that’s before we even start talking about AI! But interestingly, many business transformation initiatives are not that much more successful than they used to be, even with better tools, faster approaches, and more innovation. Why? This session will explore some of what we’ve learned in our research about business analysis impact over the past few years, where we think it can help, and why we’re excited to see renewed interest in the profession – regardless of the techniques and methods being deployed to enable change.

Security teams are facing a perfect storm of disruption. New technologies constantly expand attack surfaces and add complexity to an organization's IT infrastructure, emerging threats increase the range of protective measures organizations must employ, and shifting regulatory requirements introduce new compliance challenges. Compounding these issues, many IT security teams are already woefully understaffed: in the U.S., we only have 72 cybersecurity workers for every 100 workers that employers demand. Taken together, these factors make cybersecurity jobs some of the most rapidly evolving in the entire economy - and some of the most difficult to future-proof.
In this discussion, Will Markow, Vice President of Applied Research at Lightcast, will discuss how organizations can stay one step ahead of these challenges and maintain a future-ready cybersecurity workforce. We will discuss the market trends that are causing cybersecurity skill requirements to evolve and consider how IT leaders can spot the emerging cybersecurity workforce needs they should prioritize. We will also discuss the implications for how we hire, train, and retain our cybersecurity teams with the goal of ensuring that we are continuously evolving our cybersecurity workers to meet the challenges of an uncertain future.
